Ouch! Archer hasn't had a save to make all game... Yet unfortunately had to pick the ball out of the net twice. Lindegaard by far the busiest keeper. 2 mins plus stoppage left.
Are you sure, SC? He's not on the FA banned list and he's served three games now (Fulham at the end of last season, Newcastle and West Brom this).
Game over. Harsh result on us, Townsend coming off stifled us but it was a promising performance. Townsend MOTM by a mile. Byrne had a great game. Mason was good, the rest were average. No one looked out of their depth against what I'd consider a strong United team. Strikers could/ should have been a little more clinical if I was to be petty but in fairness, they were up against an experienced international CB in Evans and a international keeper in Lindegaard who made some great saves.
Agreed Townsend was MOTM. I repeat again, the player has started this season like a steam train, he really does look impressive. We took a long time to get going tonight from what I could see on a dodgy connection. Once we did get up and running, we gave a strong United side a decent test.
No they were both on the left. Smith took the RB role. Byrne looked more than comfortable though. As I already mentioned, him and Townsend were by far our better performers. Not that I'm judging on one game in a reserve league but if Byrne keeps that sort of consistency up, I'd like to see him given a chance in the Europa to see how he copes in a more competitive fixture, whether it be RB or LB. Definite thumbs up from me
Yeah, I really hope AVB gives Townsend some chances sooner rather than later, think we have a real gem if he's given the right guidance. Ever since I saw him at a pre-season game at Orient, (about 4 years ago!) I thought he looked promising. Was head and shoulders above all others tonight, Utd must have breathed a huge sigh of relief on 70 mins when his number came up to be subbed. Really was hammering the full back and covering defenders.
Nathan was at LB. Not seen him play there before but he did well and shows a lot of composure. He's had a really nasty injury and he's done well to come back from it. I have always liked the player, but there is a guy on the JA606 site whose views I respect, and who lives in Bournemouth, and he says Byrne was rubbish for them when he was there on loan a year ago.
Livermore (and Townsend in fairness) never really impressed greatly when on loan. Maybe it's due to the way we play, we have so much attacking intent that our players are used to certain movements and tactics which obviously their loan clubs don't have. Like I said though, that's the first 90 mins I've seen of Byrne, may have been a one off, if it wasn't, then he definitely has a future in the game.
I agree with this. He has done so well in pre-season and really should be given a chance. It's always been said about him that his final ball is predicatble, and that has been a fair comment, but he seems to have overcome that and he is currently so on top of his game it would be such a shame if we didn't try to give him more palying time.
Watched what I could on a stream and thought that we were far more composed than the last time the 2 sides met. On a different matter I see that we are currently top of our league in NextGen: http://www.nextgenseries.com/Fixtur...2-Aug-2012/Wolfsburg---Tottenham/Match-Report
He was due to have trials with WBA and Wigan after he finished his week with us, but he injured his shoulder whilst with us which he aggravated when with West Brom, so he went home for treatment instead of going to Wigan. We were interested enough in him to open discussions about seeing him again, but he came with a pushy agent who wanted to move things along at a faster rate than we did, so we said let us now when you're fully fit again and we'll see where we are then.
Apparently according to the local media here,he says he will be fit to start when the local A league starts up in early October. But his club Central Coast- are looking for a replacement keeper already. Read into that what you will.
