    Yeah, me too.

Grade 0 on the hair clippers does juts as good a job as the beard trimmer.

So, autumn is now here, like summer ever existed. My favourite time of year, get a new wardrobe sorted out. All jumpers, boots and coats, love it.
May even dust down the newsboy once it gets proper chilly.

Nearly bought a newsboy hat at the fest.. But they had no mirrors to see how dapper one looked..

Bit quick off the mark changing the wardrobe already.. I'm planning another week away before my summer clothes get stashed for a while..

Reet time to make breakfast.. Thinking fish finger sandwich with a slice of processed cheese..

Nearly took my summer shirts up stairs and brought the winter jumpers down yesterday, such was my disillusionment at the weather. Held off though as there was a vague promise of ok weather towards the end of the week on Countryfile.

I just prefer to not wear shorts if I'm honest, trying hard to really, really enjoy the summer. Give me trainers and boots and jeans over flip flops and shorts any day.

Did you get that pic of Chico Flores' car yesterday? What a beast.

Doesn't even need saying mate. It's like saying the sky is blue and there are three times as many Utd fans in Manchester as there are City fans. It's common knowledge, and only idiots would try to deny it ;)

No, I earn about two and a half times what she does at the moment. She pays for the bread, I pay for everything else!

But she has just changed career and started working in procurement in oil and gas. So after a couple of years of experience at her current company she could potentially go on contract and be earning pretty close to what I am. It made moving to Scotland a wise investment for the future, given that I work from home so can do it from anywhere.

The weather has gone nuts up here. 18 degrees and glorious sunshine over the weekend, monsoon rain and 10 degrees yesterday, now back up to 16 degrees and glorious sunshine again. Supposed to rain all day tomorrow as well.

Almost makes me miss Moscow. There summer was summer and winter was winter. You almost never saw the sun and the temperature was negative for pretty much all of November to March, but from May to September it barely ever rained and averaged nine hours of sun a day. Spring and autumn lasted about a week...

    Intriguing!

I won't be nosey and ask what you do.

Then again, what is it you do that it doesn't matter where you are?

In our house I pay for everything else, including the bread, and she goes off to the shops and buys herself and the kids clothes.

Bit of a mish mash of stuff. I generally do market research and consulting for small businesses. So the sort of stuff that big companies get big consulting firms in to do, but smaller companies can't afford to pay for.

That's all gone in the tank a bit at the moment with the economy, so most of what I'm doing now is research support for students - tutoring, exam notes, help with methodologies, literature reviews, collecting data, doing stats etc. Helping students who don't understand the course and don't get enough support from their unis, often ESL students who have come from overseas to get an English degree and whose parents are happy to pay whatever it takes.

That was our situation in Alty. Except she also bought random expensive M&S food and endless decorations and picture frames we didn't have any room for. Happy to move cos whilst the rent and bills are higher and we're more remote here, not only is the missus earning but she's not buying crap at a Dalglish-esque rate.

So Strauss has retired from all forms of cricket..

Who will they bring in to open te batting? Am assuming trott will then the young lad who has played the last few games will come in permanently and bell go to number 3?

    Thoughts??

    Thoughts?

Bit wierd really, suddenly retiring, end of. His form fluctuates and I think he fancied the winter off, which would have made the ECB hypocrites seeing as they are forcing Pietersen to play all forms of cricket or none at all.

Cook is a great choice and he was waiting in the wings anyway and Trott is not the type to go flashing outside off stump and getting caught first over, as Strauss regularly did.

I still hope KP comes back, 5000 times the player Bell could ever be at No.3.

Didn't see the retirement coming. Maybe he just thought it was better to leave completely rather than hang around with a new captain as that may have potentialy made Cooks job harder as the new skipper.

Fair play to him though and I wish him luck in his retirement.

Ruff - I prefer Bell long term at number 3 - I just think Pietersen gives his wicket away too much as he also seems a bit of a bellend.

Oh yeah, Pietersen is the ultimate bellend, no doubting that. Proper dickhead. He's also the best batsman we've got and if Trott moves to No.2 should play at three.

As Sweats says, Bell's record at five is better than that at three.

The reality is we don't have the players out there ready to come in and replace both Strauss and KP at the same time, we would struggle.

    Bopara to open anyone?

The problem is with Bell is that he has the potential to be a excellent number 3 but it's frustrating listening to commentators talk about 'how he has all the attributes' etc. He needs to start showing it now on a more regular basis and take this chance to cement his place at number 3.

I personally wouldn't have Bopara in the team but the options are light once you start looking past him.
