Man city are stepping up their bid to sign a new defensive midfielder, possibly making a bid for benfica's javi garcia, amid rumours that nigel de Jong could be on his way out.

Whether it's possible or not, I'd love to see us give it a go and try to sign him...

Would love to see it but likely that he's out of reach.

Why should he be out of reach? He'd be ideal.

By now you should all know TF won't pay a high transfer fee AND high wages for a player. No chance.

To be honest, I think he's exactly the player we need.

We have two stars in the making in Faurlin and Diakite, but both are young and inexperienced and it's probably too much to ask for them both to develop fully if they are relying on each other. But someone like De Jong would give them both a wise head to follow and freedom to develop. Just a bit worried that as they stand, their inexperience could cost us playing together. Also Park is not the answer, he's a wide player and a lot less effective in the middle, pointless picking up a player of his quality and then not using him in his best position.

But we were linked with De Jong at the start of the transfer window, but he quickly said he wanted to stay at city, which is understandable as they have just won the league. But if he is being forced out, then the gloves will be off on Friday, I just think we will be looking to spend most of our budget on a CB.

As for Fernandes not spending the money, rubbish! As long as Hughes stays within his given budget he will be allowed to spend as much of it on whoever he deems fit. Stop spurting unsubstantiated rubbish, 9 million for Dawson?? Or do you think we should be buying Messi for 100 million???

He's going to AC Milan for £5-6 mill earning £80.000/week. We only pay high wages when we get 'em on a free, no way will we pay big fee AND wages.

We got no chance in hell of getting De Jong to our little club, surely clubs like Arsenal, Newcastle or even spurs will come in for him

Would love to have him at Rangers, he could re-enact his Alonso moment on JT.

We've stopped taking bets on Nigel De Jong's move to Milan with the deal for the Manchester City midfielder all but done.

Told you so. Shame as he would have been perfect for us.
