I would never boo a player, seems rather sad if any fan boos one of their own players at a game, regardless of how crap he is. I remember the treatment of Chris Armstong, was a disgrace, especially as at one point him and teddy sheringham formed a fantastic partnership and Armstrong had the task of replacing Jurgen. I also remember the booing of Simon Davies, the welsh kid, who looked a fantastic player before he got injured. Seems to be a pattern there, look a decent player, be unfortunate enough to get injured, come back half the player and your own fans will turn on you. Nice!
Well said Boss, as I say I don't rate Spurs fans that much and can think of so many clubs here and abroad who give far better support to their team.
http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...-60m-spending-spree-at-tottenham-8084165.html and this the best bit! "The club have offered fringe players Jermaine Jenas and David Bentley to make up part of the transfer and also suggested whether Fulham would take Tom Huddlestone on loan"
To be fair, all clubs have fans like this, its prob just because your a spurs fan and have seen it first hand.
Didn't hear any boo's myself although there was a definite collective 'oh now' uttered in my area...... We all have or favourites and betes-noir, but booing our own is never acceptable. I am not a fan of JJ - but that is borne out of the frustration of a potentially excellent player never reaching that potential. My anger would be aimed at the manager/coach who continued to play him!! There will always be players who some fans don't regard as 'good enough' for our glorious club. Jimmy Pearce, John Pratt and my 'signature' Don McAllister were all on the receiving end of serious verbal stick. But all these players gave their all whenever they turned out. And they were the best that we had at the time - so hardly their fault if deemed unacceptable by so-called 'fans'......
Fair comment Boss. But I've been following Spurs for over 50 years and so many other clubs' fans seem so much more loyal, noisy, supportive and passionate compared to ours. I take your point that I know much more about our fans than any other club, but I find our fans so disappointing so often. The nasty anti-Jenas jibes just add to my despair.
Well said Relayer, it's not JJ's, Pratt's, Pearce's, Armstrong's fault if they are picked to play. What are they supposed to do, refuse to play? If they're not good enough they shouldn't be picked and if anyone should be booed it's the manager. The boo-boys, the moaners the whingers so prevalent at the Lane, make me sick and ashamed to be Spurs.
I remember the booing of davies and armstrong, and I expect these same fans were chanting "there is only one chrissy arrmstong" when he was banging in the goals. Anyhow, yeah all fans have their favourites but what brings a fan to boo a player just because he isn't performing, I reckon that’s pretty pathetic but each to their own and all that!
Well remembered!! I think there are several players from the late 60's and mid-70's who were purchased or brought through the ranks to replace previous fans favourites from our more successful periods. It's difficult to imagine that this would not have occurred at other clubs - but would only be their fans who would confirm/deny that they had targeted such players with booing.
Need to check back on twitter, but about 3 people mentioned this around 2-3pm. Sceptical me wrote this one off as just chit chat!! FFS!!
