Apparently Sidwell was very lucky not to get a second yellow early on. The ref put his hand to his pocket, then realised that he'd already booked him. It doesn't sound like there's a lot of invention without Ruiz and Dembele. A bit worrying, really.
Penalty to Wednesday, given against Aaron Hughes. edit: now it sounds like they're saying it was Kelly.
We never do very well in this competition, which is a bit annoying really as it is a good route into Europe. In recent years I can't remember us getting much further than this or the next round to be honest.
Indeed, frustrating. Nobody can say why either. Not to worry, Trotta is on, perhaps this is his moment...
That's equally worrying. Especially as Spurs are now bound to weigh in with an offer from Dembele which we will be forced to accept if it's above £15 million, I believe.
What makes you say that? The release clause isn't confirmed, and Spurs have their sights on other targets. I don't think it's a sure thing.
Bit disappointed about tonight, but there's still time for more signings. Hopefully Ruiz's injury isn't too bad. Bring on West Ham.
What it does show is that if there is no release clause, we need to turn down any offers we get for Dembele. It sounds like we really missed him.
It does doesn't it which at least is a small consolation. On tonight's game, as so often with our away games, it's not the losing it's the way we lose - two efforts on goal ! On the players and I can only go on the radio coverage we're clearly lacking quality in any depth. I'm afraid Kelly (not because of the penalty), Briggs and Kasami are just not premiership level. And Sidwell at best a squad player. Yet again I can only feel so sorry for the guys who travelled. Oh well, dust yourself down blah, blah, blah
I'd seen it reported from several places, Sky, Guardian and so on that he has a release clause believed to be about £15 million.
Only two strikes at Goal is disappointing, not enough pressure to create more. Sounds like a soft penalty, but that Wednesday were better than us. But the Hangeland disallowed goal should have counted. But sounds like we went back to our old cup ways of not putting teams under pressure, and trying to slow the game down too much. Wonder how bad is the Ruiz injury.
That was a very good side we put out tonight, a side that should have easily progressed to be honest. Jol obviously picked a strong side as he felt we had a decent chance of winning this competition and the boys have let him down. Four shots and only two on target is absolutely pathetic against a side that were in League One last season. If we had played the reserves then so be it but a lot of these guys are first teamers or at least knocking on the door. Sorry for the pessimism but today is one of the worst FFC days I can remember. I also don't rate Richardson or feel we need him in the slightest.
The Club's official report of the game says it all really - http://www.fulhamfc.com/match-centre/2012_2013/league-cup/round-2/sheffield-wednesday
on 5live we sounded pathetic. What kind of line up this is going to be against WH...Diarra and Sidwell in the MF...deary me it sounds all too familier. We never win at Upton and generally they seem to do the double over us every year.
Just had a call from a friend of mine who went to the match, for what it is worth, this is his summing up. The team he said lacked any creativity, without the 2 Ds,and were outclassed in most departments, Kasami, absolutly useless so much so that in the second half, his marking number, went off and did his own thing. Sidwell not up to premiership class contribution zero. Briggs turned inside out by their 2 wingers who kept swapping positions, need to be playing every week, but not with us. Trotta did not create his own openings, could not loose whoever was marking him, another who should be out on loan. With these 4 nullified Wednesday were in total command. I feel that Jol will be judged on who he picks up before the window closes, and what sort of performances he can get from the team. Lets be honest since he has arrived we have lost Murphy Zamora, Dembele, & Dempsey ?, and who of his signings we can get really excited about.
