Cazorla and Mata were established players in an established league. They proved their worth on the biggest stages.
Well according to our local radio station they are touting him for Stoke in exchange for Shawcross and money - http://www.signal1.co.uk/on-air/signal-sport/transfer-centre/shawcross-could-depart-the-britannia/ Centre back Ryan Shawcross could look set to leave Stoke City in a last gasp move to White Hart Lane. Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is desperate to strengthen his back line in an attempt to maintain their challenge to get into the top 4 and The Potters could be tempted to sell. It is rumored a swap deal involving forward Jermain Defoe and injury prone Michael Dawson could be imminent. However City fans are calling for money + Defoe as Dawson's fitness is in doubt, thus allowing Pulis to bring in his own choice to replace Shawcross at the heart of their defence
I don't care what people say about Defoe being a Spud, he's a goalscorer and would do well given a run in any team.
You need to put the ball on a plate for him though, he can't fashion a chance out of nothing. In our system, you need some guile, even having Cazorla won't help that much.
Have to agree with Kyle and the other. Defoe is a ****ty ass footballer. Chammy is a better footballer than him. Defoe is like a Suarez without skill.
of course he can, thats one of his best qualities.
Nah Ligue 1 is a mickey mouse league. That's why Chelsea had to spend 32mil to transfer a player unproven in the biggest stages.
The one thing Defoe is good at is shooting. He'll always take it on. And that's why he his game to goal ratio is good. I'm not saying that we should buy him, but if we was given a good supply in any team I think he'd still score goals. I don't know why Spurs have never really used him - or why he's stayed there to be honest.
He's either very patient or completely unmotivated by it in my opinion. You can't help thinking that Defoe has wasted his career at Spurs.
Honestly in our setup he will go the way of Eduardo and Vela talented players who needed to play off a striker. Vela especially was immense when we used to play 442 in the cup competitions but kack when he had to play in 433 or 4231 because he is not as effective as WF or Lone striker he basically got nullified as a player. Same will happen to Defoe he might be useful to come on as a super/impact sub but not going to be worth that money if that is what he will be there for, plus unlikely to join us if we can't guarantee him game time.
He really isn't a natural finisher in the sense you are making out. He is not an owen/lineker type in the slightest. He gets his head down and has a go. He never places it in the right place in a simple elegant henry style, it's always a bang from the edge of the box, usualy take early to get the keeper off balance. He is a sub, nothing more as no one looking to be a top side can rely on him. His best form as far as I can see was pompey with crouch, but that was because he had more time and space due to teams actualy trying to outplay them. Was overlooked in favour of Keane, which says it all.
