    Henderson heading back to Sunderland?
    12:00 PM 28 August, 2012
Jordan Henderson is thought to be a target for Sunderland.

The young midfielder left the Black Cats for Liverpool in a surprise £20million deal last summer, but he has failed to find his best form on Merseyside.

Brendan Rodgers is prepared to offload him before the 31 August deadline, and it is believed Martin O’Neill is prepared to offer him a route back to Wearside.

The Stadium of Light manager is keen to take Henderson on loan for the season, with the view to taking him back permanently this time next year.

Has anyone else heard this rumour? It doesn't seem to have any ring of truth to it IMO. How would you feel if it's true?

Whilst I'd love to see Jordan go on to have a wonderful career, I just don't think he's nearly good enough for us.

He'd be back up to AJ & Seb at RM, his best position, and he simply hasn't got the presence for CM.

It wouldn't make any sense, unless we were getting him for peanuts.

This one has been bouncing around for 2-3 weeks now like.

Never say never but second comings never work!

I liked Henderson and wish him well but I think if he moves on it ought to be elsewhere - somewhere without the baggage of a £20m price tag (he was never worth that) and without the "prodigal son" type expectations he would have if he came "home". I am far from convinced he progressed much at all last year.

Would be a "no" from me (but I don`y get paid to make the decisions)

My thoughts exactly mate. I think he'd be a step backwards for us now. Cracking lad though and I hope he goes on to better things.
Hadn't heard the rumour before TBH

He'd do well at a smaller club, like Villa, where he can find his feet & develop.

Actually, joking aside, the ideal place for him would probably somewhere like Wigan on loan, Martinez could really get him moving forward, then he could go back to Liverpool and make an impression.

I can't emphasize enough how much I'd like the lad to do well, I just can't see a role for him here, at all.

Well, for me, depending on how good the deal is for us finacially of course, I'd happily take him back.

The lad is a decent player and a solid professional who has, since leaving us, been invloved in the full England set up in a major tournament and the under 21's as captain. He has great energy, come with no bagage at all and isnt a bad footballer tbh but has looked lost in a Liverpool team/club that seems set on a destiny with total implosion for the past 2 years. He just joined them at the wrong time and also the wrong club.

We dont have much cover wide and Johnson, Larsson, McClean and Henderson would be a nice balance of cover and bodies out wide. Centrally we have Catts, Colback, Meyler, Gardener and Vaughan but JH offers much more mobility than any of them going forward (if given the chance I reckon he could be a poor mans Gerrard) and we lacked a lot of energy in that midfield at the end of last season.

A season long loan and a cut price deal next summer would be fine with me and the lad would obviously settle immediately into the club and under MoN, could develop properly and grow in stature to the player we all hoped he would have become with us anyway.

I'd say definately a big yes if the sums are in our favour.

Big question... Did Liverpool pay the full 20m up front?

I'm with Cest if the money's right.

The lad has looked better the last few times I have seen him play.
Looked much more comfortable on the ball, unlike when he first went he looked overawed and scared to make a mistake.
He was putting some top class defence splitting passes on the money and Liverpool weren't taking advantage of the openings.

NO, can never have enough good players but we have no room for the lad. He's be an expensive bench warmer.
We ripped the arse out of pool, don't give them any back.

Never really rated the kid, watched him come through the Academy and Colback was always head shoulders better than him.

If Bruce had paid £20 million for him I would be gutted, deal best left where it was he got greedy and failed, I recall him saying he would never set foot in the players lounge again, but his step father still frequents the place most home games.

It was an undisclosed fee between 16 -20m and you lot do have a habit of paying over the odds so lets say 20m and you didn't pay it all..

Be a good signing for you lads on loan. Be a bad move for him though as he'd struggle to get in the side. As others mention there are plenty of better moves out there to continue his development. I'm not sure how the likes of Reading, Norwich etc are fixed for midfielders? Personally, while he was never worth more than 5m, I think he has decent potential. He needs to be playing though week in week out

Whether it was £16million or more, we did a great deal on a £6million footballer.

One of the best sales this club has ever made.

But Dalglish was in panic mode at the time , he would have given us £10 mill for Milton Nunez.

Never said there was Vince, he's a canny player, with much potential.

Unquestionably, £16million was crazy money though, absolutely barking money.
