Same here, I think if we got those 2 for around £20m (cerca 13 for sturridge and 7 for dempsey) then they will be strong additions to the squad
It's all opinion but I take a totally contrary view regarding both Dempsey and Sturridge. How many goals has dempsey scored with his head for Fulham? Add to that the fact that he is at his peak with Fulham and that peak does not make him an outstanding buy for us. Sturridge is a fool. He has the required skills but he does not employ them consistently. He would have had far more starts for Cheslsea if he could learn to play with his team-mates. Finally we do not need somebody to merely "chip in with some goals". We need a consistent goalscorer.
Dave - I agree with you but these two players are more likely to fit into Rodgers's style than Carroll therefore I would welcome them. If the sale of an expensive plan B allows us to bring in 2 more players then I'd be happy. I'm not the biggest fan of either player but I can see them being more involved than Carroll.
guys, i don't really mind as i'm not pushed on either player. its too late on now to see a really fresh target emerge so i'd rather an unknown next ian rush be unearthed for 3mil by rodgers than see a very epxensive late bid be mande again. carroll = total disaster in terms of his goal scoring and his fee. if we don't repeat this i think its better. I like borini but he's not ready. we've not stiekrs in the reserves who are nearly good enough so either we keep carroll for now and hope for better finishing or we take a big punt. huntelaar is a big no no, sturridge is decent but i do agree he didn't show a good light when whinging about playing right side ala anelka.... there not many out there that stand out as forwards we could go for is there? Tell newkie to swap cisse for carroll
I don't think BR should sell Carroll just yet. If anything send him out on loan to get his confidence up which will no doubt be a shambles after the transfer speculation surrounding him. BR should at least give him a chance with Suarez and Borini/Assaidi playing next to him feeding him crosses. Our chance creation and build up looked brilliant against Man City. We should have won that game.
Sending Carroll on loan will not change the type of player he is. Either BR sees him as integral to the setup and plays him or he is sold, I don't see any half measures for a player we could get around £20m for
This has never been their game though. They are more likely looking to create on their own or be closer to the box than actually deliver the ball in. Downing was bought for that and that did not turn out too well either. I think if we get that 15-17 mil cash we should look into, hopefully already have someone lined up to make the quick adjustment.
agree.... If rodgers does'nt fancy him but can't get any offers that are not jokes then we are stuck but if we are we'll send up getting less next year. Take 17mil = half what we paid? sell or play is my opinion.. would love to see andy succeed as at least he shows heart and bravery. I'd sell downing sooner.
