I see that Routledge has had his contract cancelled by Newcastle. Apparently he's about to sign a 4 year deal with us. A good signing for us do you think fellow R's?
yes read about that but can't believe toon has cancelled his contract & getting no money for him? is this a hoax or what.
London Evening Standard, can't believe they'd make this up! http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/stand...943169-qpr-to-tie-up-wayne-routledge-deal.do?
Strange indeed. Has played really well for us since he signed and is definitely worth signing up (even though he was woeful Monday night). Would he cut it in the Prem? The Toon Army reckon he couldn't because he couldn't cross. That may well be true but is still worth a punt. Most of the squad however will have to be released I'm afraid. What we have now would be torn to shreds in the Prem.
routledge has done well since he came back and has scored some crucial goals, but the more i see him i cant help thinking hes a decent championship player and thats it. hes totally one footed, very predictable and easilly read. still hope he scores the winner on sat
Disagree with you Swords: There will need to be some investment in the squad however, I don't think that we will require a new 25 man squad. Some of the team may take a while to find their feet, but, if you are on a roll then confidence helps you get results. Just out of interest, how many additions would you want to see? The only defs I would release would be Hulse (too slow), Leigertwood, Hall (to injury prone), Dave. I would love to Derry in prem league but fear he won't have the legs. Would also love to see Rowlands and Cook in the pre but not sure that NW will give them the opportunity. Would also like to see another keeper come in and replace Cerny. ****tu is out of contract at end of season - if he can't get in first team now then maybe he is another that will go. Incoming Walker, Naughton (if it is true in papers), Scott Parker (if Hamsters go down), Miller signed permanently, Lalanna and Nicky Maynard. probably won't get much change out of ã10mill to ã12mill
If Wolves were to go down I'd like us to try and nab a couple of their players such as Jarvis and Doyle, but both may interest some of the bigger boys who will be prepared to lay out more money on wages. Also, I reckon Robbie Keane would be a good shout should he be shut out at Spurs again next year, still got a few goals left in him but again wages may prove a problem.
Sorry Stav, but I think Keane is past it. If he can't get into the Spurs team, ahead of Crouch, then there's something wrong with him. I just don't think he can cut it anymore in the Prem.....He'll do a Bellamy and go on loan to Coventry or Wolves, next season!
Ninj, I think the the defensive side of the squad is decent i.e Kenny, Damage, Gorkss, Hill and Orr. Derry has done brill this season even though he can't pass that well but deserves a crack at it. Faurlin will hopefully make the step up. Helguson can't finish but again, at least deserves a crack at it as does Smith who is very game but not much else. Routledge may or may not be up for it and the same goes for Tarbs who undoubtedly has great skill but CANNOT behave the way he does at that level. All the rest could go for me (open to correction on that; have I harshly left anyone out?). Remember I'm talking Premiership quality here, the greatest league on earth. All our players are great Championship ones and have done brilliantly for us this season. But its a whole new ball game at the top.
Routledge would be a decent signing provided we aren't paying him huge wages, plus four year deal is too long for him (if there's any truth in that rumour. Agree with Swords, there are a few who will need to prove they can step up.
Still have my doubts about Routledge being Premier league quality. For me he falls into the Huckerby category, too good for the Championship, & not good enough for the top division. Having said that, I sincerely hope he proves me wrong.
