Hughes to name strong QPR team but will make a few changes
QPR manager Mark Hughes has confirmed he will name a strong side to face Walsall but admits he will make a few changes for the Capital One League Cup Clash.
Former Chelsea full back Jose Bosingwa is expected to start whilst Shaun Wright-Phillips, Ryan Nelsen and Shaun Derry are expected to figure.

    Hughes explained:

“The intention is to field a strong team and make sure we progress, because it’s a competition we want to do well in.

“We’ll make a few changes because a number of players are itching to play – the likes of Shaun Wright-Phillips, who’d been really unlucky because he had a good pre-season and I haven’t been able to give him an opportunity yet.”

Which really begs the question, what did MH use the pre season for? He played SWP in every game yet doesn't get a look in until a cup game.

To be fair to MH, if I had put a team out that conceded 5 goals I would have kept tha same team for next game and told them to "put things right" in the next game - that goes for both performance and result. as SWP was inconsistant last year, the Walsall game in probably the right one to make the necessay changes in. Gives players a break and some a chance to persuade to MH that they deserve a chance in the next pl game.

I just wonder whether our "secret goal scoring hero for this year", Rob Hulse, will be given a run out..............

Don't think he will play Hulse as that might give him encouragement to stay at the club. In many ways the formation he plays tonight will be as interesting as the players he selects.

Surely Cisse should play, and hopefully build his confidence by scoring a couple?

Because he has to decide on a whole team rather than picking individuals.

We should learn from the Faurlin situation. We shouldn't put a strong team out as it isn't needed.

But that team we put out against MK Dons wasn't strong enough to progress, we had to go through a replay. What we want is players who aren't going to play half hearted (not saying Faurlin was) because it's more likely they'll get hurt from bottling challenges than playing properly. Walsall will be going in full blooded.

Point taken but i'm speaking more about the injury side of things. For example, if Cisse starts tonight and (god forbid) breaks his leg again, many people on here will be berating Hughes for starting him. I don't care what anyone says a 'good cup run' should NOT be a priority this year. Concentrate on sorting the defence out first so another 5-0 drubbing in the Premier League doesn't happen again. Playing our top players against league 1/2 opposition is completely pointless when we should be gearing everything towards our next Premier League game/Premier League survival. Once we become established then we can worry about whether our not we progress in the domestic cups.

Completely agree. I think with forwards it's different, we have got other capable forwards than Cisse to score, whereas last year at that time we didn't have many capable midfielders who could pass a ball 5 yards. This should be used to get the confidence up and formation sorted with the players who will be playing and currently look incompetent. They're only going to get better with more games and they should break too much of a sweat against Walsall

Definitely agree with you on the forward situation, we're certainly in a better situation than we was last year! Interesting to see the team we put out tonight, i'm hoping a few youngsters get a chance.

Probably cos you can make as many changes as you like in pre-season; plus the fact that you don't only play the 13-14 players you think are going play every week
