MF ~ if what you're thinking is true, it's a blood shame. The players played out of their skins last year to achieve a European place. If they're willing to sacrifice it this year, then what's the point? We've got to give it all.

After last season success I real thought this was the start of a great few years and that we would buy three or four decent players with good pedigrees. I agree we have signed a few players for the future however it's same old Ashley it's the last week of the window and the summer has been shocking as we now have less back up then last yr. granted on one of games we can beat the best but do u feel confident if a few players get injuries.look At Norwich away last yr we got battered due to injuries. Tiote or cayabe will go as that's wot we do look at carroll no plan b that season. If we sold one of them in sAy may for a daft price they fine but to leave it to the last min, we need three New signings or this will be a white wash of a season. One step forward two steps back

I've got no problem with the above, and no problem if we have to sell one of our big hitters for silly money. However, selling one of our big hitters with no replacement would destroy our season. If someone comes in for Tiote/Cabaye etc we should turn it down (even if it is for stupid money) and tell them to come back in January when we have a deal in place for their replacement. It's essential that we replace our top quality players with players of equal quality. We're not good enough to lose a big player over the next 6 months and maintain a push for the top six.

It's a bit of a shame but I understand it. It's like Redknapp's Spurs, qualifying for Europe is more important than actually playing in it in terms of money and attracting players.

Agreed we can't afford to lose a big player without replacement but until that happens, let's not worry too much while so much is up in the air. <ok>

I'd disagree, slightly. RB doesn't exactly need strengthening, the only issue is that Simpson won't sign a new deal and his contract is up next summer. Debuchy would of course improve on what we have at RB. It's an area I'd look at but at the moment It'd be the lowest bulletpoint on the priority list.

We had no strikers on the bench vs Chelsea and another CB has been a must for over a season now.

As long as it's not Doyle and perhaps just someone "like Doyle" in the sense that he's happy to play third fiddle. Gonna be hard, it has to be a target man or a pacy winger. Pointless signing a focal point striker as we have 2 of them already. We need options!

I actually wouldn't be upset with Doyle, I'd see him as a direct upgrade from Best but yeah that's roughly what I meant, a prem quality striker who wouldn't get huffy about Ba and Cisse starting most games.

Doyle is too much like Ba and Cisse which is probably why we let Best leave. We need a different style of striker. Pacey winger or target man. Junior Hoillett is good example, it's a such a shame he's a ****er because he would have fitted in nicely into our Plan B - 4-3-3. We all know that Andy Carroll can play the 4-5-1 really well when Ba and Cisse need to be rested for the PL, Carroll would dominate vs most European defences.

Shame if we lose Cabaye, odd that SSN are reporting there's a race to buy him when he's not officially up for sale, yes I know it's likely any player would be sold if the price was right, but it's annoying all the same.

Had they been reporting Xisco up for sale, well..........now your talking <laugh>

I think if anyone does come in for Cabaye we should offer them Xisco as part of the deal, that'd put them off!

I think as usual there is a lot of speculation and paper talk. We all know a big offer for one of our "blue chip" players will be accepted but it remains to be seen if anyone is actually going to make that offer or if the player accepts the move. Hopefully if it happens we will sign a quality replacement before the window closes.
As for signings we all know that a RB, CB and striker are needed but whether or not we get those players or who they are is up in the air although it is annoying for us to be leaving it this late.
I think we all just need to try to be patient, support the team we have on thursday night and reserve our judgements/criticisms until friday at 11.00 p.m.

I like Douglas. I like Carroll. I like Debuchy. Would I bend over and stretch where their current club want us to? No why go backwards and back to the previous policies which played a major part in the problems the club had and a relegation. The board are doing a good job. There was no greater critic of them when they weren't but its just a bit of game with these clubs. We need to pay what we think is right.

Like yourself ideally I'd like a couple in, centre back and a full back (I'd actually prefer a left back because Santon is only at about 80% at left back but can understand the desire for Debuchy). Being honest I think Debuchy will happen. It was interesting he went down injured just before their Euro fixture....................
