A headline on CNN has just stated that Modric went for $50m,that's about £40m isn't it? Good deal if it is that and we can buy some quality with gelt of that size.
lol... "edited"... I only replied to that part, as I had nothing to say for the rest... are you high?
No, just bored!! Look, it was well documented that we were not the only Interested party. He had already said that there was "interest from another club" Vermaelen had said that he would be talking to his fellow Belgian to try and persuade him to join him. Back in may, Vertonghen himself said, and I quote " there is interest from Arsenal, too" so, how much more evidence would you like?
i agree with the Madrid set up if it is true..however i dont know the the full details of it. As for the Modric deal..what did you expect us to do? He was never truly valued at 40 million..that is the price we put on him to have one of 2 outcomes..either to scare Chelsea off or rip them off...since they are a team in the same league...it was the former...win,win for us...i suspect if Chelsea bought him many would complain that we sold to a rival. With Madrid we did a proper deal..nearer his worth..just like Leandro is being touted for 47 million by his chairman..i bet the eventual buyer will not pay no where near that. Chairmen try to take advantage of desperate clubs with money to burn. and if DL agrees with you then i would be very worried.
This coming from an Arsenal fan Probably the only club to have a net profit on transfers I have no doubt that Levy will make ALL of the Modric money, and probably more, available to spend in the next few days.
Hopefully this is the club's official statement on it. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/s...-fears-over-real-madrid-'partnership'?cc=3436
If we don't get CL, Bale leaves anyway. On the Modric deal, its double what we paid, and we got VDV off them for 50p and some crisps.
Perryman's cleared up the agreement. Last season we didn't just reject the "£40mill" bid, because we wanted more. Chelsea and Modric screwed us over all summer and we held Modric to his contract. Last season he did well for us and almost got us a CL spot, which would've made it well worth keeping him. This season we were going through all the disruption again but we had the option of not selling him to a league rival and with enough time to buy a replacement, which we didn't with Chelsea's deadline day bid last season.
Alright lads, never posted on your forum and anything I put on here will be a genuine opinion - I've got better things to do than try to annoy people I don't even know. I'm surprised there was any doubt over your Spanish team. Figured too many arsenal players had gone to barca for you to like them. With regards to VP, I don't want him to get injured and I don't think many arsenal fans seriously do. Having said that it was pretty lame of him to say how much respect he had for AW and then left us to go and play for AW's main rival from his time in the EPL! I don't want him to do well because of everything he said. I'd also happily have taken less money if he left the country... Selling Modric for ~33mill is a good deal. Although he is quality I never thought he got enough goals for a player of his ability and getting more money from Chelsea would have been a mistake. AVB must be gutted though, wanted to sign him, couldn't. Joins the club he is at, he leaves! I'm guessing, having read all of the posts in this thread, that no-one really has any idea what this partnership is all about?
Considering the new 'agreement' does it not seem strange that the loanees/sales that RM are making into the PL at the moment all seem to be to rival clubs (Sahin to Pool, possibly Granero & Carvalho to QPR) and yet we seem to be looking to their main rival for a loanee (Affellay)?
Shame to see Modric go. Early on,someone suggested he should have won a trophy with Spurs.I agree. But he broke a leg one season and missed a lot of games and last season he and the other players "died" for about 7 games while challenging for a top place. I just hope he doesn't "die" again during his new spell with the New York Yankees.Sorry! I meant that other big money club in Madrid.... But,when he was "on",he was a joy to watch and I can't remember another player that passed the ball with the outside of his foot. Well, you should pick up a few "pots"in the coming seasons, you crafty little Luka you..........
I wish him all the best too, he has moved to one of football's few truly elite clubs. You can not begrudge the man for having ambition, and I thought he handled himself impeccably over the last year considering his situation, without complaining and just getting on with his game. Credit also has to go to Levy on this, who stood his ground when Chelsea played their dirty tricks and has got a very good price for the player without letting him go to a rival.
