Sky were running that story this morning. It looks like we'll be back with a better offer. The talk about Dembele seems to be getting louder, also.
I really rate Dembele, I think he's an excellent player. It seems if you are after M'Vila perhaps Parker is lower down the pecking order under AVB
just seen some comments which say that lyon's president has announced that we made contact for Lloris again yesterday.
I think that's more to do with his injury record and/or age than anything else. The M'Vila transfer, whilst it appears odd on face-value, it could be good to have him adjust to the PL whilst Parker is still able to play reasonably consistently. Then next season, M'Vila can come in more (he's still only 22 btw)
Agreed. I've been rattling on about Dembele on here, for some time now. I've always rated him. Trouble is, with the figures for the Modric deal being so widely published, and with only 4 and a bit days left now, everybody is going to try holding us to ransom!.
yep, and I stated how leaving that deal till the end of the window, would/could screw us over, for the exact reasons you mention! Its a massive catch 22 and everyone has a difference of opinion which we keep going round in circles with.
Why are we even remotely interested in a largely unproven DM - let alone at £12+m - when we have 3 already on the books, all of whom are probably better than M'Vila. And we are no closer to getting the 2nd striker or Mods replacement..........
Probably because we are going to play 4231 which requires two athletic DMs who are comfortable on the ball and we want proper cover in every position. We do need three other players though - a striker, someone to challenge Sig for the pivot role in the forward three and a goalkeeper. I'd be happy with this squad: Lloris, Gomes, Friedel Walker, Naughton, Smith, Caulker, Dawson, Gallas, Verthongen, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto, Rose M'Vila, Parker, Sandro, Livermore VdV, Willian, Mouthinho, Sigurdsson, Carroll, Bale, Lennon, Townsend, Dos Santos/Falque Adebayor, Leandro Damiao, Kane May be a bit much to hope that we can do all that though.
I love an optimist - that's about £125m worth of transfers right there (assuming £15m for Lloris, £15m for M'Vila, £20m for Wilian, £30m for Moutinho and £40m for Damiao. In my opinion, out of those 5, I reckon we might get Lloris and M'Vila - maybe Wilian too. Moutinho and Damiao are just too expensive. Of course, this being Tottenham, there's just as much chance we'll sign no-one
I was assuming £12m for Lloris, £13m for M'Vila, £15m for Wilian, £25m for Moutinho and £25m for Damiao which comes to £90m. We could raise maybe £20m by selling Jenas, Bentley, Falque/Dos Santos and Defoe which taking the Modric fee into account would leave us net spending £35m which is on the borderline of doable but selling Dawson and putting Hall in the squad might well be necessary. Agreed that this is mostly fantasy though.
Still personally think M'Vila shouldn't be high on our list of needed acquisitions, but at least according to Sky Sports we may have a few more quid to play with as they are currently quoting we got £33M for Modric.
Of course it's all rumors, but... The only good news I've seen lately--not that it, apparently, will help--is the "partnership" with Real. Sounds great, so why didn't we get Sahin? The idea that we're losing VDV and gaining M'Vila does little to raise my spirits, to put it mildly. I understand we need Lloris. But I'm afraid of these middling 10-15 million moves. All too often, I think, you get someone who does little but cost too much. I'd rather we get one Moutinho, or player of that calibre, than two M'Vilas and Willians.
apparently Sahin, didn't want to come to us. no surprise he would prefer Liverpool, they're still a much bigger club than us, with a far greater rep and pulling power, plus the fee and wages stacked up. From the ITKs I've read he wanted either Arsenal or Pool, of the realistic clubs he could choose. I fear greatly that Levy has ****ed the Loris deal up by all the shilly shallying, we already look a less appealing prospect than we did three weeks ago.
Exactly. Quite frankly, spending 10-15 million for players who turn out to be not too great is what other teams do--I thought, or hoped. Forget them both and get Moutinho.
