Kick Off at 19:45 pm Our opponents: The Boro have enjoyed a meteoric rise through the leagues by getting promoted twice in two years (conference to league two and league two to league one). Stevenage's debut season in league one was a very successful as they finished 6th thus qualifying for the play-off where they ultimately lost to Sheff Utd 1-0 on aggregate. Iwould like to keep as strong a team as possible, maybe swap a couple like Shaw for Fox and Gazza for Kelvin, but lets keep it like a training session for Sunday. This thing of what about injuries does not wash for me, Rickie could break his toe with a tea mug at home
Typical banana skin game...good lower division side who are up for it against a PL team whose mind is elsewhere. Also Stevenage think we are a big 'I Am' team after we refused to move the game for Sky. I am very keen to win this as we need a positive result with 2 big games coming up. I expect NA to start with a fringe team, but to have first team players on bench in case things go wrong.
I'm sure in one of his interviews Nigel indicated that this would be one for some of the youngsters. Would also be good to see Chung get a run out.
New signings or not...I think we keep forgetting we have Tadanari and Cork to come back. Tad is nearly there and Cork has done a little light training.
We'd have liked it on TV in that case. You do know what it says in the Art of War...never underestimate the opposition
Tzi Sun haha...classic Nigel. Hopefully those fringe players offer a reminder to Nigel they're available for the man u game.
Score: Stevenage 1 - 3 Saints Scorers: Sharp, De Ridder, Lallana Team: Gazzaniga Richardson Stephens Seaborne Shaw Hammond Chaplow W-P De Ridder Sharp Lee Subs: Davis, Fonte, Fox, Lallana, Lambert, Hoskins, McQueen
We were Stevenage's very first League Cup opponents. Round One 10 August 2010 Stevenage 1-2 Pompey This is the first year they've reached the 2nd Round [at the 3rd attempt]
On the assumption that Lee wont be fit enough to start: Gazzaniga Richardson Stephens Seaborne Shaw Chambers Hammond JWP De Ridder Sharp Puncheon Davis, Butterfield, Fonte, Davis, Chaplow, Lee, Rodriguez (I want to target the League Cup this year, so a slightly stronger bench than I'd usually have had, just in case things go wrong during the game).
Not sure he'd fancy a trip to Stevenage to make his first public appearance. In front of a full house on Sunday in front of the cameras will do!
Wouldn't be surprised if he did make an Appearance if he signs in time. League cup is more like a friendly. Not like anyone will be there to see him anyway
I wonder if a couple more of the first team will be in there, possibly J.Rod, one of the CMs etc. Anyway I really don't care what the result is as long as it doesn't go to extra time.
