http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...thampton-transfer-news-saints-prepare-1281645 £5M bid - Ajax - Denmark - Nicolai Boilesen. Apparantly Arsenal and Inter are after him too, 20 year old left back from Ajax (can allegedly also play centre back), who has 2 Denmark caps to his name, sounds a bit of a coup! Only thing is though, he's only young himself, obviously as well as Shaw, so it's not like having 2 experienced left backs + Fox, and if we sign him, we will have Fox, and 2 young left backs trying to establish themselves, perhaps alienating the less favoured one, perhaps Shaw.
Putting a rumour into the transfer rumours thread is like throwing it into a wormhole, they get sucked up, not to be seen for days, weeks, or even months, before unexpectedly popping up on some forgotten part of the forum.
This is getting silly now. The Ramirez rumour merits its own thread because it's important and substantiated with some sort of evidence. This one has come out of nowhere and will probably never be heard from again. At least wait until these rumours get some kind of traction before creating a thread specifically for them.
Totally agree with this - hopefully the mods will pick this and the other Barca potential signee (yawn) and put them where they belong...
You would if every thread on the first page was another unsubstantiated rumour with 5 posts on it. Which is why we have a single rumours thread.
I also note that it is in the rumours thread at 0939 http://www.footballfancast.com/2012/08/football-news/southampton-eyeing-5m-boilesen#
In all fairness you could argue that this is not just a rumour thread. It is also about how the rumoured transfer could affect the development of one of our young players that has came through the academy; which would not aid the clubs target of half of the first team coming through the youth academy.
Sod the one rumour thread, there is Nothing wrong with posting a rumour story, you can then read it if you wish. Some people can spend lots of time on here, some like my self can't and I am certainly pissed off having to troll through pages of people talking anything but about a rumour.
Jeeeeeez guys, keep your wigs on, I only posted it as a discussion point of not just whether the rumour would become truth (which is for the rumour thread), but also of the pros and cons etc of getting a new left back, a discussion on this particular player if anyone knows about him, and the impact it will have on the likes of Shaw! These other points of discussion are not for the rumour thread which is why i thought it warranted its own thread...not that it really matters either way, settle down. Anyway, just an unrelated observation, but the fact that the spell predictor on here keeps trying to change 'rumour' to the American spelling of 'rumor' is bliddy annoying
If that was your intention you could have titled the thread slightly better. LB is a position we need to reinforce. Fox has pretty much shown he's not that reliable at this level, not saying we should get rid, but we can't rely on him and Shaw. Whether this Boilesen guy is the right man to do that, who knows. Frankly, who knows whether we have even made a bid.
Oh, could I have? Thanks for the input, and sorry if my approach in the wording of this thread was a bit too light-hearted, advice taken on board. I forgot how precisely worded the titles have to be for threads on here. But, back to the point at hand, I for one think Fox is capable, though by no means will he be one of our key players in the Premiership. While we could definitely benefit from having a stronger left back, I do think it will really create a blockade on the road to the first team for Shaw, which could be detrimental for his development. I mean, in matches like vs Stevenage on Tuesday, should we bring in Nicolai, it will probably be Fox who gets the game above of Shaw, in order to give him match practice, when these types of matches are exactly what players like Shaw need to develop, and yet if Shaw were to get played, and thus Fox is out of practice, well, Bart showed us exactly what a lack of match practice can do to you last season against Blackpool!
Sorry, I'm not having a go, apologies if it came across that way. What I mean is parodying the title of the Ramirez thread, while clever, was always going to lead to people seeing it as the same kind of thread, i.e. discussing a rumour, process of player signing etc. Hopefully the fact I did actually engage with the question proves I'm not just being a 'douche'! I get your point about blocking Shaw's route to the first-team, but he is still very young and has time on his side. Despite his impressive performances in pre-season I'm not sure he's quite ready to face the uniteds and chelseas just yet (and I'm not sure Fox is either, sadly!)
Duuuude, stop being so patronizing! Anyway, the intention of this thread was not to debate the validity of different types of threads and their titles, but to debate the left back situation, so, anyone want to get back thread on track?
