As we are celebrating 100 years since the club became Gillingham football club I think it would be nice if the club had, at the home games, a selection of "Gills Greats" from the past. Former players, managers etc they could be paraded or announced to the fans before the match or at half time.

I know it's a bit late for this suggestion to be picked up by the club but who would you have if you could?

(P.S I only just managed to get in for the kick off against Bradford so if this was done by the club just ignore and I'll delete the post.)

Centenary thoughts for me in the true sense of the word brings a couple of names to mind and what I would like to see happen...

Peter Feely anyone remember him? Fantastic header of the ball from my very young memory. For those to young to even know who I am on about, do what I just did and cheat to find his stats because I could not remember them either, 22 goals in 41 games.

The ultimate delight for me though, would be to see the first team coming out for a League Two fixture at home and instead of Nelson coming out, to see Ron Hillyard wearing that green jersey, only for a few moments of course. At the same time to let me be allowed to go and stand back in the Town End behind the goal as he comes out. With baying away supporters behind me and giving loads of abuse. The opposition side to get their striker to step up and take a penalty against him before kick off and for Ron to save it. I turn to the away supporters laughing and give all the usual expected hand gestures. Oh to be a young lad again and the things you could get away with. Wake up brb, wake up - lol

Good idea, shame my all time favourite Gills player is no longer with us! Keith Lindsey, what a defender and scorer of the penalty against Peterborough in 1974 that guaranteed promotion and in front of 17,000 at Priestfield!

Certainly do brb. He was one of my faves when he came along in the mid 70's. He got 16 in 27 games that first season.

First time I saw him I remember him chasing a 'lost cause' to the byline and actually managed to keep the ball in and put a cross in. Can't remember if we scored or not, but I do remember thinking "how come our other strikers don't do that? ". Can't remember ever seeing Brian Yeo, Damien Richardson etc chasing a lost cause

He scored another 6 in 14 games start of the next season then we sold(?) him to Sheff Wed. I was distraught.

<edit> just checked my "Definitive" and saw his direct replacement was one Danny Westwood. He wern't too bad either

I see that you have Mel Sage in your Ultimate GFC XI. Not a bad selection, considering that you must have seen David Peach before he moved to Southampton. I chose Peach instead of Sage because Peach was such a good attacking left back, and probably the best penalty taker we've had.

I went to school with Mel Sage! May have helped my selection a little! Keith Lindsey took a mean penalty as well as Dave Peach!

Just been having a read up on Feely, the old memory becomes very faded with age. It said he played in the 1971 Chelsea side, scoring on his debut against Coventry City. However, the article goes on to state he was competing for a place against the likes of Peter Osgood, Ian Hutchinson and Tommy Baldwin.

Bearing in mind Chelsea won the FA Cup the year before in 1970 and had a European trophy that following year 1971 if memory serves me correctly. I wonder if the Chelsea today, would care to give us a certain player back? Actually no, we prefer the money and cannot afford the wages! How times have changed.
