Joey Barton says he wants to leave QPR for Marseille
QPR midfielder Joey Barton says he is desperate to join Marseille.

He is currently serving a 12-match ban and, speaking on Twitter, claims he can "only take so much" after being frozen out by Rangers manager Mark Hughes.

Barton, 29, is without a squad number at Rangers and has been linked with a loan move to the French side.

"I am hopeful that things will be sorted out soon," he said. "I only want to play in Marseille. This is the place for me."

Barton spent a week training with League Two side Fleetwood Town after he was left behind while Rangers toured Malaysia in pre-season.

He was also fined six weeks' wages and stripped of the captaincy by Hughes over the summer, after the FA issued the ban for his sending-off during Rangers' 3-2 defeat to Manchester City on the final day of last season - the midfielder clashing with Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany.

    Joey Barton factfile
    •Born: 2 September 1982
•Made his Man City debut against Bolton Wanderers on 5 April 2003
    •Joined Newcastle on 14 June 2007 for a fee of £5.8m
•On 26 August 2011, Barton moved to Queens Park Rangers on a free transfer - signing a four-year deal
"I could have appealed as is my right," said Barton. "I chose not to out of respect. But when I returned to the club, I was forced to train away from the first team.

"I was stripped of the captaincy, then made to train at 3pm. Then, I was hawked around on loan.

"I [also] had my shirt number taken without any notice. Then, I read I wouldn't have been signed had the current regime been in place.

"I accepted all of this. I never once spoke out of turn or angrily towards anybody. I am a man. I can only take so much. I want to leave.

"I hope to move on with my career, with my life. If that is in France, so be it. I don't want to be disrespectful to QPR but enough is enough."

Barton made 32 appearances for QPR last season, after joining on a free transfer from Newcastle in August 2011.

"Not gonna cry about it," he said. "Maybe it's just time to move on.

"I enjoyed parts of last season and believe I am more than capable of playing this year. But the manager doesn't. Such is life.

"I have no problem with this as it's my fault I am banned for 12 (10 now) games. When a person makes a decision he has to stand by that.

"I respect Hughes for this. I don't agree but I accept his decision.

"I am not the type of player to sit on the sidelines and take the cash. It's not me. I could do that for the next three years but it's not me. I want to play football."

A deal was agreed in principle last week, with QPR keen to bring Marseille midfielder Stephane Mbia to Loftus Road as part of the deal.

"Hopefully QPR and Marseille can finalise the deal in the next few days," he added. "My heart is already in the Velodrome."

Interesting to hear that he offered his resignation but they rejected the idea and then did this seems very strange going ons behind the scenes.

I think we have to give Barton some credit if it does turn out to be true that he offered his notice, just a shame he's such a fruit cake.

But if we can get Mbia as part of the deal, then putting up with Barton for a year will have been worth it.

I don't believe for one minute he offered his notice unless he asked for a huge payout to do so, lets face it are you going to rip up your 11 million lottery ticket on whim, I know there is a big difference between the normal guy in the street but this is life changing money whoever you are. I think we will find out the truth that TF expected that he could dismiss him for breach of contract sooner rather than later, knowing his ability not to keep quite, and save a few million and I expect now this outburst surely means he could be dismissed if this deal does not go ahead.

I'm reading that this is unlikely but I can't imagine why we wouldn't be pushing for it. They want to sell, Barton wants to go, it makes perfect sense.

I for one am ashamed to be a QPR fan today
The way we have treated Joey is unprofessional
MH has been allowed to carry out his personal feud
I was at Norwich where we were out fought and out bullied for 90 minutes
Only Hill had the balls to fight back, Zamorra just cried to referee
We need a player like Joey otherwise we are down
So called Rangers fans or boo boys seem to forget we are a family club
In a family we support all the family even when they make mistakes
Remember he is not a rapist or murderer, just someone who reacted to being punched
I say thanks to Joey and good luck in France

Good call Doug. As I said in another thread, we don't have a better replacement and I'd have him back in our midfield in a heartbeat.

You are obviously entitled to your opinion and I respect that. But I find your logic a little hard to understand, he may have been "punched" but the fact remains that he of all people knowing what was at stake that afternoon needed to exercise maximum self control, but of course that's totally beyond him. He could have single handedly got us relegated, and for that I'm afraid there are no excuses.
Get rid ASAP in my opinion!

Yep I'm with you guys. Could do with him now. The amount of slagging off of players and management on here is unbelievable at the moment. The majority of which is done with hindsight and thats one luxury those in charge don't have!

You too are entitled to an opinion, but if we had been relegated, it would have been because of how we performed all season, not just one game
Joey is not the first bad boy we have had, I don't remember everyone turning on Mark Dennis when he got banned
Joey lost it at Man City, I agree, but the way the club have treated him is disgraceful

I think they have treated him well considering he is a complete self centred Jo Runt and single handedly disrupted our dressing room slagged off our players i.e. Adel and is a loose canon waiting to explode and will get another manager sacked. Apart from that I agree with you :)

Barton could probably come into the team now and do a job....but he can't as he is banned for 10 more games:headbang:

The disruption in the dressing room is a myth without any substance unless you can direct me to where and on what basis you say so. I've been over the same argument loads before but he gets on well with loads of the players, was straight out on the end of season do with them, lots of good banter, photos taken and published and yet people keep going on about an imaginary rift!

Flan man, won't argue with you as I lived in Zeewolde for 13 years and followed FC Utrecht
Joey has faults I agree but to me there is only one klootzak in this whole saga and that is Hughes

If all that Joey has said is true, then I agree it's not the best case of man management I've ever come across, but, and this is a big but, we've only heard his side of the story so we can't be sure that is exactly what has happened. He is also a talented footballer, I won't deny it, but far too much of a loose cannon, and unfortunately he has that reputation which I'm certain influences the way that referees handle him. One thing we can't afford this season is another seven red cards, and before you say it, I'm aware that only two were down to him.
I'll sum it all up by saying at this moment in time QPR and Joey Barton are not a compatible match.
