Would be ideal, who would you bring in as a result?

Rumours were West Ham were interested for a few mil - not sure how true that is though. Spearing I think we wanted £3mil and reckon we could get £5-6mil for Adam. Agree about Cole though, happy to see him go on a free if it means we get rid of the wages.

I think Dempsey is pretty much a certainty to come and if we play it smart could get him cheap on deadline day. Let's be honest he's burnt his bridges at Fulham and they don't seem to want him anymore so anything around £5mil would be decent business.

Think midfield is pretty much sorted, defence maybe need 1 more and think we all know we are crying out for a poacher. I still think Owen on a pay as you play contract could be handy - although controversial I know.

Aqua man was our undercover spy... we just kept sending him to Italy to secretly tap up the best players from the Italian league.

For £5mill Dempsey may be worth it- but he's not my first choice. I know we keep getting linked to him and he had a good season last season- but if we had the money I'd rather spend it on someone younger, pacier, hungrier. Someone who will help out across the field.

Chris has got the figures about right here for the offloads, amybe we could get a small fee in we offloaded Pacheco too

For me of more interest is who we bring in

I think BR will be looking at a number 9,and maybe a winger, OR aguy who can do both

    Dempsey being most likely
Sturridge being 2nd most likely, which would prob have to be funded by sellin Carroll

Think BR has NO intention of bringin a LB in, several guys can do a job there Agger,Dwoning,Johno,Robbo,Wilson

Ive a feeling we may see us linked/sign with a surprise player b4 the deadline too

I can understand the thinking, but i would HATE to see owen in a Liverpool shirt again! If we can get Dempsey for 5M ish that would be a good buy

Hadn't though of Pacheco. Think his days are numbered, especially when he didn't even get a look in during the Europa games. Maybe get a mil for him. Doni looks like he's going, although not sure where or if we'll get a fee for him. Same with Eccleston, can't see him making it and maybe get 500k from someone in Championship? Also Wilson I thought might go, can't remember him playing at all and doesn't seem to have progressed. Possibly get a couple of mil for him from a Championship / Scottish club.

Personally Id like see us go for Damiao, would probably have to offload Carroll to do it though.Other options for the no 9 position could be Negredo,Van Wolfwinkel,Seydou Doumbia, we probably couldnt afford them though

I know what you're saying and to be honest I'm still not sure I'm convinced on it but let's be honest he is exactly the type of player we need. Someone whos is a proven goal scorer and if we get him on cheap pay as you play, if he does get injured again then he's not costing us much. Let's be honest if he scores the winner against the Mancs I think all would be forgiven?!

He's someone who will hang around the box and if you create 3 chances for him in a game, he'll put 1 of them away. The same can't be said for Suarez, Borini or Carroll (yet).

Think we should loan out Wilson, may be needed NEXT season as Carra may retire/move on and it would mean we wouldnt have to bring in a replacement

If the money raised from those possible depatures was the only money Rodgers now got, Dempsey seems ideal for me.

Can play across the front, has improved his goal return every single season since joining Fulham and if the fee can be brought down to around £5-6M, it seems a good bit of business.

I fear we'll be stuck with Cole. I honestly cannot see anyone coming in for him. Even if he was willing to reduce those £90,000 a week wages, the reduced figure will probably STILL be too much for a lot of clubs in this league.

West Ham do have a history of signing older players who haven't returned much... Still some hope of getting him off the books!

Hadn't thought about Pacheco. He's still rated by some on here (Redbrynner springs to mind) but I cannot see him getting into the first-team. I think he'll leave next summer and it will back to Spain.

I'm slighly baffled Eccleston is still here to be honest. I'm not seen anything to suggest he can make it here. He would do a good job for a Championship/League 1 club but he won't make it here. Could be a deadline day depature.

On Wilson, he needs to play week-in, week-out. We sent him to Blackpool last season and he was in the team, then out of it, then into the team and then out of it again.

Regular minutes on a regular basis would do the lad a lot of good in my opinion.

Some good points on this thread.

I agree Adam has to go really. I feel sorry for him, but for us to be taken seriously and our football to improve, we need to get rid. We have adequate cover in his position now so hopefully he will go.

Similar with Cole. I'm not like some who seem to dislike him personally. I think he is trying to do it for us, and we did offer him the large contract, but I just feel he is past it, Which is a shame as in his pomp he would have been a real asset for us. Not now though.

I actually missed the game so i'm really please Allen did the business. How good was he?

It's early days for Borini but I hope he improves. Pleased Sterling romped it.

Think Downing should have 1 more season.

I am trying to keep my expectations in check about Allen, but I think I might fail! Hugely impressed by him today

    Simply put…
We didn’t miss Lucas when he went off; Allen kept things ticking over and also tracked back and was looking after the defence. A great mix of passing and vision and energy and tackling. Looked like he had been in that midfield for years!

I don’t say that lightly, the fact we didn’t miss Lucas is a huge complement to Allen

He missplaced one pass all game, and the majority of his passes where forward and in opposition half. Found Suarez with a lovely reverse pass which ended with a shot on goal. Broke up play well with a few tackles and was just genereally very tidy. Him, Lucas & Gerrard kept things ticking over nicely. The only thing that let him down was his effort on goal from 25 yards out in the final few minutes which went high and wide.

Solid 8 out of 10 for me.
