Feel sorry for him as he deserved to play. You're right though it makes picking the team easier.

got nolan back though so it isnt a huge loss.
Its gonna be the usual four in as midfield again.

Apparently it may be for the rest of the season, also Harper looks likely to be out again, also possibly for the rest of the season, taking longer than planned to decide whether surgery is needed, and how invasive it will be.

I'm not concerned by Harper or Guthrie being out, We've got Nolan and Cheik back and Krul is more than capable. Feel sorry for them but it ain't the end of the world.

Feel bad for Guthrie since he's been solid. On the bright side it means we'l probably see more of Ireland.

Yeh completely agree. Feel bad for them both but it gives krul another chance and it eases the selection choice in the middle, especially with HBA about to come back

Get the formations out lads, here's mine:

    --------------Krul---------------
    Simmo-Williams--Cudicini--Enrique
    Barton---Tiote---Nolan-----Jonas
    -------------Ireland------------
    ------------McLoven-----------

I'd go for Mcloven over Ameobi because he's got more pace/movement to stretch Blackpool's defence. Ireland to play off him rather than Nolan because Nolan lacks the mobility of Ireland, plus I think Nolan's at his best drifting in late from midfield unmarked to poach a goal.

Exact same from me. Concerned that Loverman wont be able to play as a lone striker though

I'd give Ranger another shot at starting personally. He can hold the ball up and get in behind and may get a bit more of a sniff against Blackpool defenders than he did against Villa. Other than that I would start the same as you. Except I would start Williamson and Coloccini at the back because we haven't signed Cudicini and Williams yet :)

I'd go for this except put Ameobi up front. Pretty sure it was discussed on a article yesterday. But I dont think Lovenkrands has the presence to play lone striker, he had a decent game against Man Utd but recently he has been nonexistant.

Like others have said, shame for Guthrie but certainly cures the CM selection headaches!

I watched the game but tried my best to ignore his voice. I'm hoping you are not insinuating that he called Coloccini, Cudicini. Because that would be a disgrace!

<laugh> Didn't even realise it said Cudicini & Williams as CB, I just looked at the midfield and attack!

Several times, even after the other commentator made a point of saying Coloccini.

Really feel sorry for Guthrie, he was coming into his own, covering for Tiote and Nolan more than capably. On the positive side the midfield for next game picks itself if Pardew is willing to go 4-4-1-1.

Shola is a more natural lone striker but the pace Blackpool play with I cant see him having an impact. Ideally I'd go for Ranger, but Lover may be the more likely choice for a pacy striker from Pardews point of view.

Does leave us very short in midfield if he is out for the season. Lets hope we don't get anymore injuries in that area, or any other really. Squads looking a bit thin now.

Maybe if we do get 3 points at Blackpool we could start playing a few more youngsters for the rest of the season.
