    Southampton pursue Barcelona central defender Andreu Fontas
    ​



    Elsewhere, Southampton are attempting to conclude a deal for the young Barcelona central defender Andreu Fontas. The promoted Premier League club are understood to have offered a deal worth €6m for the Spain Under 21 international.

    Fontas, 22, has been a fringe member of Barcelona's senior squad. He made six Primera Liga appearances in the 2010/11 season then missed the majority of their last campaign recovering from anterior cruciate ligament surgery. A converted holding midfielder, Fontas is the type of technically able central defender in demand with English clubs.




    I mentioned a while back that Reed was out in Barcelona on 'business', I guess this must be why?

    the fact that he has made 6 senior appearances for barca the season before last does sound pretty promising

    I would hope that he was a replacement fore Jose rather than Jos at the moment. Though any partnership that works will do fine by me.

    As long as he's one of two I'd be happy. Still need a player with experience and a turn of pace to him for the central defence.
