http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/04/21/laser_sparkplugs/ How cool would this be if the tech was available in time for the 2013 engine change? There's no figures for energy use, time line or increases in efficiency, but with teams looking for any advantage no matter how small then how long before we see this tech in F1, and who would likely be the first engine manufacturer?
engine technology hasnt really advanced alot in the last few decades. This is a pretty good idea and would help in the fuel efficiant department. I note it was designed and built in Japan so possibly a japanese engine manufacturer will get first dibs
The article says that Toyota subsidiaries were involved, so I'm guessing they get first refusal? I guess the use of this depends on how cheap they can be made really, but if they offer any advantage F1 teams will snap them up.
Ferrari have been looking into lasers for their updates. They hope to perfect shooting a hole in the rear tyres of cars in front.
Lol i thought this was some Austin Powers film mock take including F1 and stuff.... Didn't think this was actually serious until I looked on the link. Some really interesting stuff, hope it makes the 2013 season.
