Oh dear. You play well and lose. You play ****e and lose. Could be a recurring theme here! But that's what you get when you play a championship team in the Prem!
Oh dayum! Welbeck's reaction is priceless.
Saints had more shots including more on target, more corners but slightly less possession according to Sky Sports. Not a bad loss. I reckon we need a new keeper.
No one on your board , if I sling your sister out of my bed onto your board will you follow ? Of course you will , of course you will ........................
Alarm bells are not ringing yet, but i am worried that about playing 4 3 3 are team does not suit it and i feel like we are just forcing ourselves to play that way when it is not beneficial. Also worried the players will get downhearted as we could see 4 games played 0 points
I don't have much luck watching Saints at St Mary's. Saw us 3 times last season and we lost twice and again today. I thought we were good in the fast half with some promising passages of play but in the second half after they scored we were poor. there didn't appear to be any rhythm and the gap between the holding midfielders and the wingerswas obvious.I don't think Rodriguez should be playing out on the wing and although it was just one game the formation really didn't work today. Also thought Adkins made his changes a bit late on and there didn't appear to be much urgency in the team especially in the closing stages.
Gomarchingin has got some stick but I suspect the manager and chairman both agree with his main point. The squad as it stands is not good enough.
I think that they could and maybe should have won this game had the tactics been better and if the individual players had played a bit smarter. It hurts to have lost an important game that was winnable, but you make it seem like they were completely outclassed which they weren't. Is the squad good enough? I don't know. It's close. I at least think the squad COULD be good enough with a few astute moves. They need to bring in some players. I think everyone on the forum realizes this. But it takes time. You are saying it should have been sorted out months ago which in my view is unrealistic. You can see from the Buttner and Ramirez soap operas that it isn't that easy to bring in new players. Teams will try to hold on to players until the deadline hoping to draw the best possible price and on the other side, teams looking to acquire players don't jump in early because they want to shop around and find the best bargain. So you always have to wait until deadline day. Of the three major players the Saints brought in Rodriguez has failed to impress thus far, but Davis and Clyne look to be among the better players in the squad. So they haven't done all that badly in the transfer market. I would rather Cortese and Adkins take their time and bring in the right players than sign players too quickly. It's a very tough position to be in. If you choose badly, your team is screwed. Wait too long, and the squad doesn't have a chance to gell or you are already too far behind to catch up. I'm not all happy-clappy about Saints. I'm very, very nervous. I think they could well be relegated this season. But on the other hand, I knew it would be like this because the task was always going to be difficult. All we can really do at this point is cross our finger and hope that Saints make the right moves. Two games is not enough to panic. And if we'd won today it would be too soon to say that Saints were in the clear. Understand your frustration and worry. But at least give it another week and see where things stand then. If the Saints bring in a good CB and winger, and maybe a hard-tackling defensive midfielder or left back as a bonus would you still say the side doesn't have enough quality?
I thought that Saints matched Wigan in the first half but the match to me seemed very similar in some resepcts to when we played Portsmouth in the FA cup several seasons ago. We did not capitalise on the chances we had and I think the obvious gulf in class showed itself in the second half when Wigan did a professional job on ourselves. Lallana looked a class act at this level but I think the rest of the team seemed decidedly Championship. There are two elements that worry me. The first is the obvious lack of Premiership depth in the squad. I think we are probably still about 3-4 players short of having a team that is capable to compete at this level. My second concern is that Martinez completely out-thought Adkins with his tactics in the second half and I felt that the failure to score when we had the chances in the first half would be punished . Martinez demonstrated that he is well beyond Adkin's ability as a tactician and I think that many Premieship managers will realise that an away win at St. Mary's is a nailed on certainty if they can get the tactics right. It was a shame as I had expected a home win and the first half saw us play some good football. However, I think the second 45 mins showed that the squad at the current strength is not good enough and I feel that a repetition of Derby's performance about five seasons ago is now a very good possibility. My expectations pre-season were to survie and build on next season. I think that today's match showed that teams like Wigan are capable of humilitaing us for large swathes of the game and it was probably their easiest away win for a number of seasons. Sorry, can't see us staying up or even getting off the foot of the table this season.
Jos Hooiveld on Twitter: Disappointed we couldnt give you guys and ourselves the first points in the EPL today. We have played better games, and will do so again.
Davis is class , absolute steal , Clyne could be also , I hope so , Rodriguez is or should be a back up striker in the Premier League at the moment , we need first rate ready to step up players , we need to spend an awful lot of money to stay up , it really is that simple , I predicted if you look through my posts a Derby unless we bought strongly and I am not changing that opinion . We have had nearly 3 months to weigh up and purchase , no excuses .
Has any promoted team lost their opening four games and stayed up? Have tried checking on footie records pages but cant see any that have. Any statto's out there that csn make me feel better?
Played better in the Premier League ? Yes , but still lost . Lets move on that was a sentimental post designed to provoke a less of a pasting . Nice one Jos , or nice try .
