I think if you generalise as 4-3-3 you are wrong however if you look at the player in their positions you are right. As the poster above says. Rodrigues is not going to work out left.

and I agree with the above in part that Clyne had a good game.......when defending!!!! when he was at the attacking end ignoring Guly he was very very poor. Several simple passes ignored and then lost the ball. That makes Guly look bad and then the usual suspect gets the hater's comments.

As I said above. that is my team for Man U based on current squad. Yes there may be signings this week but is home against Man U the game to say 'welcome to our team'? I would pick from what we have, get through that game win or lose then the signings for the Arsenal game once they've had a week+ with the squad training. And yes that means Ramirez if he signs.

We can beat Man U at home, we should've beaten Wigan at home but those little decisions (should I pass or run) are what is losing for us. Easier to see this game than in the Man C one.

Lallana is lost in the midfield. but was still our best player to my eyes. He tries, he works and he believes but he needs to be one of the 'front 3' i.e. behind 2 strikers.

Starting to soundlike I am saying 4-4-2 however I do think we can push Lallana on and then 2 of those 3 come bac into mid when we have lost posession

Wigan looked good in the second half after they scored. We looked like a team devoid of ideas. I agree that their first goal came out of nowhere - but that is the difference in the top flight - you take you chances when you get them. Tatically, they were better than us too. NA needs to step up on his formations, player positons and tactics. Jay on the left wing is not working - needs to be playing in the centre. Could no believe my eyes when we shifted to what seemed a 4-4-2 and Jay moved up alongside Rickie and was then pulled off! What was that about?

gomarchingin thought Coventry were like Barcelona before we played them at the end of last season. That sums him up really.

Al Habsi made 6 saves, Davis made 2. Wigan looked much more assured in possession than us, especially in the second half, where lets face it we were pretty diabolical. Formation was not right for the team today, to many players looked out of sorts and i'd like to see our players being played where comes natural to them. We need to sort out the defence, every one of them at times looked shakey. Clyne - good game, needs to start playing simpler football. Fonte needs to learn he is not stevie G and cannot spray 40 yard passes. Hooiveld let his marker run for the first goal. and Fox, well he does not look up to scratch, Wigan utilised his poor defensive skills and just drifted by him over and over. Money needs to be spent in the next week other wise we will suffer with no depth. I also feel a change in formation could be on the cards after that shambolic tactical display where people were doing what was not natural too them. Hopefully however we will not see anything of this sort again as frankly the performance was piss poor.

I think something that explains the poor second half performance was that after they scored, Adkins went to the plan B that so many don't think he has. Sadly, it worked even less well than plan A but it did happen!

Agree with RLSGM's summation of Clyne, he could obviously get away with a bit more in the championship than he can in the premier league and is yet to adapt, but it's clear he's already one of our best players.

to be fair, the camera was constantly looking at a completely empty block in the ground, no idea if it was away support but on tv it did look very empty.

Guly couldn't make forward runs because he was dropping back deep to get balls. He spent a long time on the ball because too often there was no one for him to pass to. Guly plays a possession game. If he doesn't see an opening, he holds it or plays short simple passes and hopefully someone will create a chance.

Wigan didn't exactly park the bus, but they came in with a game plan to stay organized at the back and take their chances if they found them. They had a little bit of luck and a really nice couple of passes and that was all they needed. It probably should have been a draw but Saints can't complain, because they really didn't muster up enough quality chances and left too much in the hands of fate.

I'm not jumping all over Jay Rodriguez, but he was the problem today. If the other side stays back on defense, then you can't afford to have your offense outnumbered, which is what happened because Rodriguez was anonymous. I think he was trying, but he wasn't good enough. Hopefully, he improves as he adjusts to that position. If not, Adkins either needs to drop him or play him in the center of the pitch.

I'm am not impressed with Fox myself. If we get no LB in this week should we see what Shaw can do next week? He should certainly play in the cup game either way I'd say.

To be fair i can not blame people for being negitive, this was our chance to get some points before 2 tough games. It is now likely we will have played 5 games befoe we get any points at all, and even then Villa will be a better team than Wigan. Hope Nigel goes out and buys the players to fit into the formation though. playing 3 out and out strikers playing in a 4-3-3 clearly dosen't work, as was shown in pre-season.

Right then, that was painful. I'm not going to get drawn into arguing with the inevitable riled up morons we get on here whenever we lose. There's no reasoning with idiots of that calibre. Bad start to the season, and it's probably going to get worse, but I'm confident that we're going to click eventually and the points will come. Staying calm for now.
