The point is she is a figurehead monarch with no political power yet she and her brats use the plane that is Britain's equivalent of America's Air Force 1 when it's financed to be used for the Prime Minister's overseas business and in case of a national crisis/emergency. Of course we'd have a president if the monarchy was abolished, and the twat wouldn't get away with what the Royal family do if he/she were to ever get elected.
Not necessarily. Since the prerogative powers of the monarch have long passed to the PM, they actually have more power domestically and in foreign affairs than, say, the American president does over his relative lot - Congress makes Parliament look like a wee Granny's meeting. The PM has all the power in the current system, so... But anyway, if there is a constitutional change I imagine the world has learned from the mistakes of failed presidential systems such as in Weimar Germany (Article... 48 I think it was lead to the rise of Hitler and the consolidation of his power).
President David Cameron President George Brown President Tony Blair President John Major President Margaret Thatcher What wouldnt they get away with exactly? Bush got away with quite a bit more than using a few military planes to travel around. Even our comparatively restrained Prime Minister's get away with more than the current monarchy get away with. Im not fan, I just dont care and having the potential for some loon like Bush or Cameron to be elected President ( they have significantly more power than a Prime Minister as far as I know ) would be a disaster.
Dark forces Mr Naïve...dark forces And we could all have a few extra bank holidays to celebrate the revolution oui oui
The amount of power and sway (or freedom) a president in the USA has is hugely down to the make-up of Congress at the time (which party dominates, particularly the senate) and also circumstance. Bush was able to get away with so much because of circumstance - post 9/11 he was able to wield huge power because Congress give him all the money he needed to 'fight terror'. Hence how he got away with Dep. of Homeland Security and Guantanamo. Although... how much power did he have? Many say the real big player was Rumsfeld. Read my past answer - a president (if you follow the US system) has dramatically less power than our very own PMs (over their own nations and relatively speaking). EDIT: Just see you replied!
Ffs UIR, you are getting Premieres mixed up with Presidents. If the monarchy was abolished the whole constitution would have to be changed ie;church and state seperated, house of Lords abolished etc etc and the House of Commons would become a 'senate'. The constitution of this country forbids a Catholic being King/Queen or from holding the office of Prime Minister all because the monarch is the head of the Church of England, yet because when the document was passed by parliament there were no other prominent religions in the country its legal for a member of 'any' religion apart from Catholic to be head of state or head of government. This country is still in the Cromwell era when it comes to state affairs.
Hate to agree with UIR on anything, but it is my thread and the royals are a ****in' irrelevance at worst. We spend more money on nuclear missles we're never going to use, and bailing out old men in stripey trousers who rule the world with plastic smiles* The biggest threat to our democracy in our lifetime has been Murdoch and flying monkeys such as Mackenzie. Now if we're chopping off heads let's start on them. in fact, with apologies to those affected, I still hope for the day when Murdoch and Mackenzie can be crushed to death, screaming in their own vomit and urine, knowing with their last thought that South Yorkshire Police will blame them for their own demise, and a national paper will willingly believe them. * Song from 1984 pop-pickers. Maybe donga mate, but there's nothing in the constitution stopping say a muslim taking the throne. Except maybe if 'they' make the said muslim's pregnant mother's car crash in a French tunnel.
Lets be honest you could add any characters you wanted and there is no way it would look as bad as the fulham one.
This Egyptian statue from 1515 BC looks more like Jacko than the one at Fulham. http://boingboing.net/2009/08/07/3000-year-old-michae.html
