Adam Johnson has officially signed for Sunderland - and immediately highlighted the role Martin O'Neill played in his move. The 25-year-old wing wizard penned a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light on Friday evening, joining from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee. Having talked with O'Neill after the two clubs agreed a fee, Johnson admitted he was bowled over by the Wearside chief's passion and vision. And the conversations with the Northern Irishman were a key reason why the England international opted to return to his native north east. "It feels fantastic [to be here]," he said. "I was born here and there have been rumours in the past about me coming here. "It's great to have signed and it's a fresh start. "Coming back to the north east and Martin O'Neill were the two main factors, especially the gaffer and listening to what he had to say for me. "He made it clear just how much he wanted me to come here. To know that and feel wanted and appreciated made me feel that it was the right choice to sign. "He knows exactly what he wants from his players and from me personally. Hopefully he'll give me plenty of confidence as well." Johnson is Sunderland's second signing in the space of a day following the arrival of striker Steven Fletcher from Wolves. The pair join fellow new boys Carlos Cuellar and Louis Saha at the Stadium of Light and Johnson believes exciting times lie ahead. "With the manager's ambition and the players he's brought in already, the club is progressing quickly and that's another reason I wanted to sign," he said. "[It's exciting times] without a doubt. Sunderland mean business and the signings made suggest that. "I want to perform on the pitch for the fans and I'm just looking forward to getting out there now."
I swear I could hear "wise men say" ringing in my ears, as I read this post. It just gives me goosebumps! MON deserves a knighthood.....arise Sir Martin!!!
This is your version of the Hatem Ben Arfa signing. I can't believe we signed a player like Ben Arfa while mid table.
No it's not. He's English, from the North East and will now be playing for us. The only comparison is that, given all this excitement, I now know what it's like to do a left-handed, underarm **** just for fun. A regular habit of yours, I gather, you dreadful little moustachioed magpie..
Well I am sat on the edge of a potential hurricane in Nassau at this very minute. But I can't think about rough seas and sea sickness. All I can think of is how amazing this signing is. MON has managed to do something I did not think he would ever be able to do and that's bring in quality better than we have previously had at the club. Saha and Cuellar were sensible signings but AJ and to a lesser extent Fletcher shows MON's intent. I am not going to get ahead of myself but I bet in the back of MON's mind he is thinking top 6 finish like he did with Villa. You could not blame him either. Liverpool are re-building, Spurs have their problems and a new manager. The top 4 is just about decided but there could be a real scrap on for 5th and 6th. A top 10 finish would keep me happy (and is realistic) but I bet MON is aiming higher.
****ing brilliant. I'd have pissed myself, but all my tubes are bunged up as I've been masturbating all day.
I prefer the sock and roll to tissue, gets stuck under the foreskin and can itch. The poor cat looks like he's wearing Brylcreem mind, as I don't have many socks, living in Spain...
