I thought Suarez was very poor last night, Carroll disappeared midway through the first half. They might as well not have bothered to turn up.
Rodgers didn't have to lambast players in public... but to say they were 'excellent' is setting standards too low, is disingenuous, and not really helpful. He could have said something like "we still have a lot of work to do, but I am pleased with the win" ... honest but not publicly humiliating the team whilst letting them know we still are far from a finished article.
Or he could have said something on the lines of... "The players were excellent, Adam's energy and vision was first class. His determination and effort was worth £10m alone. Wee Jay bossed the centre of the field day, a natural destroyer and creator." Would add an extra £10m on the sales.
He's only stating the obvious. He won't get ahead of himself thats for sure. Yes it was a win, fantastic? No, comfortable? No, priceless? Yes. I don't think we'll have much problem with our home form. The quick passing style suits that, as the home side is expected to dominate posession. However, its the away form that I feel is the worrying part, we're not going to get away too many times with getting dictated by the opposition. When we play better opposition, we'll get punished for misfiring. WBA are a decent but not great side, they exposed our lack of potency.
The one thing that might really benefit us away from home is the additional pace of players like Sterling and Osama one of the frustrating things from last night was how many times we knocked the ball into Sterlings feet rather than giving him balls to run on to.
Last night's performance wasn't a cause for concern for me. Unless something catastrophic happens and Spearing, Henderson and Adam have to take hold of the midfield then I will ****ing cry.
Have some sympathy for the commentator. After years of regurgitating cliches about Rafa he had to note that since our 2005 Champions' League win we've had an illustrious record of finals, semis and quarters while still resolutely avoiding giving any credit to the man who got us all of them. I am starting to get visions of Rafa's return some time before the end of this season.
