I didn't think it was that Douglas had to play another game I thought it was he had to live and work in the country to apply for it. He will gain Dutch citizenship on the 26th of August. According to the Twente chairmen they haven't accepted a bid from us.
More gossip about Dempsey and L'pool. The respondees to the article suggest it's "old news" and it mostly is, although it does have one or two different slants. Worth a read if only for the L'pool fans comments - http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfers-clint-dempsey-is-still-1274128
http://www.twentefm.nl/streeknieuws/26701/0/paspoort-voor-douglas-franco-teixeira.html This article suggests that Douglas has been a Dutch citizen since November 2011.
No he starting the application in November 2011. Doesn't actually get it till the 26th He's just been picked for the Dutch team http://m.sportsmole.co.uk/football/fulham/transfer-talk/news/twente-no-fulham-bid-for-douglas_41458.html
Jarvis and Fletcher Blimey, West Ham have paid Wolves nearly £11m for Jarvis - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19342136 And Sunderland are reported as having paid £14m for Fletcher. Not bad business for somebody.
With Sunderland signing Saha and Fletcher, there are rumours that Frazier Campbell might get shipped out, and that we (along with QPR) are monitoring the situation. Putting aside QPR's panic trolley dash to sign a new team after their horror-show at the weekend, what do we think about Campbell for Fulham? I know he missed a couple of sitters against us on the last day of the season, but he could be a reasonably-priced option is we're not willing to pay the prices that Celtic and Huddersfield are asking for Hooper and Rhodes. He'd also be someone who I would expect to come into the squad to fight for a place but not assuming that he would be an automatic starter. In short, he'd be a bit of a gamble, but only a bit of one. I think I'd be quite happy if something happened on this.
Not that enthralled by Campbell to be honest. We shouldn't be buying teams like Sunderland's cast-offs. If they're desperate for a striker he can't be that good...
Quite agree Bidley, Cambell a complete waste of space, surely we should be aiming at a higher caliber player than this.
The only point it would make sense on is the home-based players rule for the squads. I think we're falling a bit short on that.
No, we're fine on that Bidley - see the "25-man Squad" thread (suitably updated with help from my friends). We discussed Campbell when he was linked with us back in June and the consensus then was 'okay, injury prone, could do better'. I'd stick with that view.
Park Chu-young We are now being linked with the Arsenal player - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2192584/Brendan-Rodgers-reported-Premier-League-Fulham-Clint-Dempsey-chase.html I reckon he's a above average, industrious squad player which is probably what we need at the moment.
L'pool seem to have won the see-saw battle between them and Arsenal to sign Sahin - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19364375 That being the case, the likekihood of Dempsey moving there becomes less and less.
I agree about Dempsey ... looks more and more like he's going to stay while the heat under the Dembele kettle continues to climb - latest was that Tottenham may activate his 15.5 million pound escape clause as a replacement for Modric.
Sir Alex says, ManU won't be making any more signings in this transfer window - http://www.redmancunian.com/2012/08/24/sir-alex-ferguson-press-conference-240812/ Dembelay, Dembelay, Dembelaaaay. Just Spurs to worry about then.
Dedryk Boyata It appears that the CB is moving from Man City to Twente on loan. That would be a sure sign that Douglas is also on the move - hopefully to us http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11661/8014477/Boyata-set-for-Dutch-move
