It's interesting that media reports are saying that AFC have "ended their interest" in Sahin rather than Sahin "has chosen" to go to Liverpool
Why the doom and gloom without Sahin? He is NOT a CDM so with your current midfield of Arteta, Wilshere, Cazorla plus the need for a CDM where would Sahin have fitted? Perhaps that's where the "first team guarantee" gave us the edge? That and the fact Jose hates Wenger
Is there "choice" in a loan move? Usually the manager dictates where his players go, hence why Wenger/Jose relationship wasn't the biggest help....
He quite clearly wanted to go to Arsenal and would have, had such a high loan fee not been slapped on him. Clearly the work of Mourinho so stuff him. We will be ok. Like I said in another post, Sahin would have been nice but surplus to requirements really. An out and out DM is far more necessary and urgent. He will be a great player for you guys, and I am glad we are playing you at Anfield next week, before he has time to gain full match fitness
I would say it was more to do with Mourinho not wanting to help a rival in the CL rather than any personal issues between him and AW
Oh come on, that's such a lame excuse, the chances of you meeting in the CL are slim and even slimmer still that Sahin would be the reason you would beat Real Madrid. They key determinants would have been (in no priority) - We can "guarantee" first team place (sort of important for a loanee) - Offering to pay more wage and upfront loan fee - Jose hates the "Voyeur" and bums BR
From the looks of it neither club was going to get the option to sign Sahin for a fixed fee at the end of the loan. I'd assumed that was a sticking point. If the numbers bandied about for his loan fee are true then it's shocking and I'm glad we didn't pay it. I was annoyed enough at possibly loaning him for £2m, especially when paying his wages too but to see Madrid getting (supposedly) £5m for him is ridonculous! That's over half what they paid for him I think and they'd still have him for another 4 years after the deal. Also, that CL rivals thing is ballbags. They could easily have written it into the contract that he couldn't play against Madrid. I'm not devastated we didn't get him, though he looks to be an awesome player. As other have said we have other positions that need filling far more and I'd rather a strong CM/DM as we've enough creative players. What fecks me off is that even if we do sign/sell players then, yet again, we'll spend half the season waiting for them to gel. No doubt at the end of the season we'll again lose more players and start the whole fecking cycle again.
Improving us would be more of a bane for our competitors in the CL - I honestly believe Mourinho doesn't see us as a credible threat in the CL (sure he rightly or wrongly thinks they can beat us if we play) so if we are to improve and beat more "dangerous" teams the better for RM. Much like Tottenham and adebayor last season Man City didn't see them as a rival so it only hurts their actual competitors. Whatever the reason the deal fell through Mourinho/Wenger relationship (unlikely don't think either give that much of a ****), the fees and salaries involved or Sahin first team playing time choice it is a shame. He would have been a good player to add to the squad/team especially with injury and form concerns with out mf. If we do sign a solid and good DM I would be more than happy with this seasons purchases.
Bit gutted to miss out on Sahin, he looks like a great player. But, if we had no option to buy and Real were slapping a massive loan fee on, then ultimately we'd do better to look elsewhere and, in my opinion, whilst Sahin would undoubtedly improved our team, we really need to be concentrating on a defensive midfielder.
that's what i actually contended, the guarantee that he'd get more games could have played a role in addition to the stupid fees. Sent from a mobile device.
Wenger says there are more comings and goings in the pipeline at the Emirates. “Some things can still happen,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website. “I don’t want make a promise that I cannot keep. It does not only depend on me. But there still could be some action on the transfer market - ins and outs. “We are working in the market . We’ll see what we can do. “The transfer market is open for two months and yet for one month and three weeks it is nearly closed. “It wakes up completely in the last week and then every minute becomes important. “Everybody has played for time for seven or eight weeks and now suddenly everyone is in a hurry. And that is when the most intense activity happens.”
I wouldn't. I want: * to see us ship out at least 4 players (bad ones). * to extend Theo's contract. * to sign said solid DM/CM (c*ck off Biglia). * to sign a decent right back as cover for Sagna (not getting into the Jenkinson/Yennaris/Coquelin argument because you're all wrong ). * to sign decent goal keeping cover. * to kick Darren Dein in the nads. Anything less and I'll consider it a poor summer on the back of numerous other poor summers.
What do we think of this idea? http://arsenalarsenal.wordpress.com/2012/08/24/defensive-midfielder-going-once-going-twice-sold/? Iâve had a seriously topical and brilliant idea, and it concerns the transfer window. While there has been talk about it being open too long, there are also specific concerns over certain aspects of the system, chief among these is the influence of Agents. Two things popped into my mind. Auctions and Cattle Markets. Rome is pretty much geographically central to the footballing world. Also, the sun shines and the food is good. In short, a very pleasant place for buyers to congregate for one day a year. Central to The Eternal City is the Flavian Ampitheatre, otherwise known as The Colosseum. This is how my auction will work. The Worldâs Media and Buyers are assembled. So too are Rent-a-Mob. Booing and soft fruit throwing are allowed. The âProductsâ for sale are valued, and this figure will simply represent the order in which they enter the Sales Arena. Cheap stuff first. This way we add an element of risk to the buyers, as well as building to a crescendo of excitement for the mob, as our auction moves to its climax where we see the Crème entering the arena last. To add to the brilliance of my system is a dramatic simplification of the wage structure in one hit. A Product will be paid a flat 20% pa of its sales figure. Tidy. Tell you what, as a player, you wouldnât half think twice before becoming disillusioned about your prospects of winning trophies! Firstly, thereâs the potential humiliation of only realizing a pitifully low price, then thereâs the fact that you could end up in Siberia. Or worse, absolutely any Northern Town.
The transfer window should open as soon as the season finishes and close a week before the news season starts
Completely agree with this. At £5m for the loan, plus £15m if he does well, that's 20m!! *AND* £115k/wk. You can get M'Villa for ~£15m right now permanently and on significantly less per week. Far rather get M'Villa than Sahin as he's more of a DM anyway. Go get em Wenger!!
This is what they do in the Indian Premier League. Players are independent agents who decide their minimum wages and people bid from that starting point. It works because they are independent, This might be harder to do in football because clubs would want a certain fee and the player would want a certain wage. For example us and Chelsea both agreed fees for Mata last year but we were blown out of the water due to wages. The system is what it is and can't be changed we just have to live with it. Also the issue of player satisfaction will become an issue liverpool might out bid us for a player who would far prefer to play for us is he going to be giving 100% or vice versa.
It’s being reported this morning in the Metro that not only are Liverpool paying the player’s full wages of £120,000 a week, not only are they paying a loan fee on top of that of £5 million but at the end of it all they have no right to sign the player on a permanent deal. So effectively they could be paying £10 million for the right to help Madrid develop their midfield for next season. In which case is it any wonder that in the end we said ‘No way, Jose’ ?
ah yes the Metro, that bastion of truth and honesty. The deal is still being negotiated, BR said as much last night, so how any journo would have any idea of the numbers yet, especially the metro, is beyond me
