My opinion is 'job done, bring on the champions'. For tonights game, I thought we saw the passing that BR wants including Pepe. Agger stood out as part of this too. The full backs were more like wing backs (wtf with Downing?) with Jay and the Allen sitting between the CBs and midfield. I was impressed with Sterling tonight, hes not work shy and creates/threatens everytime he gets the ball. Although only player a small part I was impressed by Allen again too, plus Borini did well minus the finishing (familiar story). Shelvey, Henderson and Kelly got a good run out and didn't do much wrong. All worked hard and got involved. Cracking ball by Kelly for the OG. And back to my opening comment...job done
Lets hope so......Im just pissed that he plays these muppets and leaves technically gifted youngsters in the reserves.......Our reserves destroyed a couple of Senior sides in preseason and always look better than when the likes of Adam and Spearing are in the centre of the park....
He can't really say anything too bad with some of the youngsters involved. Sterling will love any praise im sure. He should just privately go to Adam in the middle of the night and inform him, while holding a pillow firmly over his face, just how useless he is and scuppers the progression of others.
like said above job done. Bring on City Thought Hearts were the better team in the 2nd half.Tell you 1 thing their support was loud Something that you don't see in the prem games well not enough anyway BRING ON CITY PROPER LOOKING FORWARD TO THE GAME
Trust me Borini is going to be your no.9 this season. Of what you've got he's the best player in that role in Rodgers' system....would have been interesting to see Carroll have a go though. Suarez on the right, Assaidi on left, Sterling making cameos.
Definately going to be our number 9...Whether the right man or not.....Rodgers has decided and his mind wont change
Blimey. Does anyone honestly expect the manager to criticise his players to the cameras? What he says to the public and what he says in private are two, quite rightly, different things. I'm not sure why anyone is "losing respect" for him at such an early stage of his tenure, is it because he's not doing what you think he should be doing? Give him a break. It's also strange how we can all watch the same match and come away with vastly different interpretations of it. To me Henderson was quiet but didn't do much wrong as such- though he does look a little ponderous at times. Shelvey gave the ball away an awful lot more than he usually does- I hope just a bad day for him. I think Adam is suffering from knowing he's not wanted.
If anything, Rodgers is gaining my respect as time passes by. I think he speaks very sensibly and, despite what is reported in the media, he is very respectful of other clubs and their contractual agreements too. I just hope the result can follow to hold the pressure and abuse back
we played terrible tonight... i have to say watching spearing "directing" things by waving his arms about asking CBs to pass it and then seeing allen come on and be really precise, quick and deliberate with his passing.... that was funny. At least it shows allen is precisely as advertised, his positioning and interplay instantly got us playing better. Shevely was pure dirt, i couldn't beleive how bad he played having been so much better only a week and a bit ago. I have to say we so need to see better quality players, at least we can say skertl, johnson, lucas and suarez are to come in... even gerrard despite lack of legs. thats something. Also finally sterling aquitted himself decently. i'd like to see him hold it up and stand his man up then outpace him rather than keep running at pace cos actually its more predictable but he should learn quick.. he really held his own which is not easy is it? I hope to god we get sahin in.
Over the summer, I argued the case for keeping Spearing because he is a local lad on low wages with plenty of team spirit and fight, these are qualities that Fergie found in youngsters to help build up squad numbers over the years. However, having watched him in pre-season I have got to say that my opinion is changing. He simply is not good enough and with Lucas returning and Allen joining, they show him up at times. As MITO just said, when Spearing went off and Allen came on, the difference was embarrassing for young Jay. At 23 (24 in November), is he going to get a lot better? Sure, he will get better as he reaches his prime but a lot better...? I don't think so. Will he ever be considered what we are aiming for, a top four player...? Quite simply, no. We have Gerrard, Shelvey, Henderson, Lucas, Allen, Adam and Spearing. IMO, that means we can afford to lose one or two depending on Sahin's potential arrival (fingers crossed). So, in short, I have jumped the fence and joined the 'Spearing to go' camp. That doesn't mean I shall be condemning him at every opportunity or criticising him for the teams wron doings, it simply means I no longer think he is good enough
This^^ We had out practically our second string with youth players thrown in. It sounds like some of you are expecting us to suddenly be Barcelona (who were awesome last night, esp Iniesta!). Were we really that much worse than we were against a better WBA team. I doubt it. I didn't see anyone perform as badly as some of you are suggesting ... even Charlie Adam, who had a few good patches, TBH. I personally think there were more positives than negatives last night. This opinion may put me in the minority but, f*ck it, i don't care. People have vastly differing opinions on most things. Some crazy people think the world is flat or 6,000 yrs old, some think that The Royal Tennenbaums is a funny movie. Bottom line: we won and take an away goal back to Anfield. I'll take that as I predicted a draw, anyway. Work to be done, but mission accomplished. In the premiership we're in a similar position to Man Utd and Tottenham; in the Europa league we're in a better position than Newcastle. We have positives, you know. Rant over.
I'm sick to death of seeing Liverpool players who do not possess basic footballing skills. The money they are on, yet they cannot even pass a ball to a member of their own team, who is 10 yards away. Then if they do get the ball, they can't bring it down and control it before it is taken back off them. It is just so shameful to behold.
Totally agree...we look a team with fragile confidence at the moment so the last thing I want is him lambasting them in public after a win. Yes the performance was below par and there are issues for all to see but giving them a public slagging is hardly going to help. On the positives I thought Sterling was excellent, the back four kept a clean sheet and JA looked good when he came on (although try to remember lads that's its easier to come on after 70 odd mins when the opposition are knackered). The rest were not so good. Despite the criticism on here Adam was not our worst player last night. Good in spells and bad in others. Shelvey had a night to forget as did Hendo (out of position again though) and Borini should have had a hat trick. Also I'm really surprised that the isolation of Carroll goes on....would have improved our game no end last night. Good result from an unspectacular performance...but that's exactly what two leg cup ties are all about. 1-0 away from home should see us through. At this stage of the season that's all that matters.
Agree with most comments. Find me a manager (good one at least) who publicly lambasts his players? Certainly not individuals. Especially after a win.
