FRAIZER CAMPBELL Sunderland to Fulham The England international has been told he can go by Sunderland and that is likely to start a scramble among a few striker-light clubs. Fulham have been looking hard for a centre forward with pace who has experience of the English league. They have asked about Jordan Rhodes but failed to bid more than Blackburn, they have asked about Celticâs Gary Hooper but have been put off by price and his Champions League involvement and have asked about former Arsenal striker Eduardo but have reservations over his durability. Campbell also comes with flaws after a couple of seasons dogged by injury. he came back with an initial flourish but was notably a yard shorter as the season progressed. A summer of fitness work and free from niggles should benefit him but Sunderland need to balance the books as they bring in Steven Fletcher and more. QPR, surprise, surprise will also monitor developments once they sort out their defence.
I'm up for a part ex for Dempsey! Especially as Fulham are still pissed at the bindippers for trying to tap Dempsey up.
I could quite happily settle for that, although i do not have a problem with either campbell and/or richardson staying
Problem is..Dempsey would not come to us under any circs...he has a stonewall will to go to Liverpool and no where else...hence his rather unfortunate strike action
To be fair... ...And i know I'm going against the grain here...!! I'd rather keep Frazier. He loves the club, he's a good PL player, and he's still (reasonably) young. Lest we forget, the first season that Dempsey scored more than 10 goals in the league, he was 27 years old. Campbell is 24.
I'll be honest stu.. I like Campbell and think, once he's fully over his injuries, will be a good PL player. Depends whether he can hit the ground running. Never saw too much of the Arsenal game so not sure how well he played although he was on the wing wasn't he? Dempsey is a class player but no resale value at 29 year old. We'll see eh!!
I think we need to stop worrying about resale value Marcus. When it comes down to it we want the value on the pitch. If Fletcher fails here (God forbid) what is his resale value going to be? Look what happened with Gordon. I find it unbelievable he was released, as personally I still think he was our best keeper. (But I'm guessing he was on silly wages as well.)
Can anybody tell me how many competative games Campbell has played up front for us? He always seems to be on the wing - he was **** hot in the pre season and the couple of games just before he got injured against Man City (about 2 seasons ago) - since then the only time I can remember him playing up top was the Norwich game - I dont get to away games btw
and Westwood is making noises about being Irelands no 1 but trapatoni says he needs to be playing regularly
MR - I think ther answer to your question about Gordon lies in the fact that although he has been released for several weeks now, not one single club has come in for him. I think he is knackered mate and MoN saw that very quickly close up. To us we thought he could come back but obviously it wasnt to be.
Although Dempsey will never join us, its nice to dream though, my Liverpool mate here in Oz tells me that Dempsey doesnt fit Liverpool's criteria for signing younger players 25years or younger. However I did mention to him that a player like Dempsey has the potential to get Liverpool into the Top four, hence the resale value will have more than paid for itself. I would like to mention also that I am over the moon that Fletcher has joined us at last, whether he scores 10 goals or 20 goals, I believe he will give his all for us, unlike some of our previous forwards. Great result at Arsenal, now we need to follow it up with a home win. If AJ joins also, the SOL will be buzzing and hopefully packed. Fellow Mackems, I feel MON has got us fans excited and full of hope again. It may have a Peter Reid feel about it
