http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/166452.html?CMP=OTC-RSS No Damiao and no Willian. Makes sense really, we don't want or need to be spending £20mill on a striker or a winger, let alone both.
Considering we handed the captaincy to Daws and tried to sell him to QPR three weeks later, I wouldn't rule out a move just yet - especially since that part of the interview was written by somebody with no grasp of the English language: Compared to the rest of the interview, that doesn;t look to be part of the same interview. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are claiming their website was hacked which would explain the Modric page on there. I don;t believe that for a moment either...
"I think we are closed on what we are trying to do with the strike situation", might just mean that we've had our bid accepted and that he's negotiating personal terms, subject to a medical. Honest.
If we go into September with just JD Ade and Kane, I think it will be a massive gamble, and not a good one.
i've just watched the interview and IMO, AVB is trying to fend the press off. as far as I'm concerned, we're in for Willian. AVB did the standard "I admire him" bullshit to not give anything away. As for Leandro, he almost dropped himself in it, as he casually said "I went to see himin Brazil*" ...er... "when I was doing nothing". - quick recovery there, if you ask me. *why would he just casually go to see him in Brazil?! I think the all his comments about "no more strikers" are simply because he has been told to fend off everything as best as he can, because Levy is dealing with it all privately. I actually found that interview quite encouraging. i think our Andre is a bad liar.
More to the point, why did he go to Brazil to see him? The player was in England playing at the Olympics.
Regarding VDV....love the guy. But an unhappy DUTCH player usually causes problems within a squad...so maybe he is the architect of his own exit...AVB is only interested in working with those that know their place and rightly so.
he say's he's happy and does'nt want to leave, but he will go if we want him to,i can understand that,as his misses works in Germany
probably because AVB and Levy have had a "relationship" for sometime that no one knows about, i expect. Lets not forget that he was contracted to chelsea wasn't he? that could have caused all sorts of legal problems. I bet levy sent him over and said "so, if you are going to become the boss, tell me what you think of this guy?" (bearing in mind we've been after him for ages) why the hell else would he go over to Brazil to watch a player, when he's not manager of a club? That's totally bizarre!! His reaction and the expression on his face after he said "I went to watch him in Brazil" was that of... "****, I've let the cat out of the bag... Sorry Daniel!". - he did well to think of "when I was going nothing", IMO.
That's what I mean though. he was "unemployed", but how much sooner than everyone else, do you think he knew he was going to be the spurs boss?! All covered up for legal reasons, IMO.
I think he did know Roo. I'd never heard of Oscar and nor had Chelsea it seems....However Abramovich knows he let AVB down and knew his potential.....so as soon as AVB showed interest in Oscar, abramovich had to hijack the move knowing full well that he must be good if AVB was interested. AVB was scouting for Spurs.
i'm positive we're in for Dam, and v.serious about it this time. our transfer window started 2 days ago and it's going to be very busy. but for obvious reasons, AVB i keeping his cards close to his chest.
Considering I was just trying to puzzle out why we had both Gylfi and VDV, VDV's departure wouldn't surprise me. For the record, as much as a pain as he may be, I think he's the best player we have for cool decision making and ball possession under pressure. So, on balance, I wish he'd stay. Gylfi has the advantages of being faster and happy to run all day. He's a good crosser and can score--but I wonder how effective he'll be versus VDV in tough situations. But: all the personnel moves are looking like a plan that's been carefully worked out between Levy and AVB. It may work and it may not. But I'd rather the new manager has the team he wants, mainly because it should help the team, and also because it will make for a better idea of how he's doing.
It's a theory I suppose. I suspect, however, that we haven't heard about the other players in Brazil that he watched and liked as we didn't need them. The noises that both AVB and the Inter chairman denying any recent contact have made suggests to me we really aren't in for him. A flurry of sales and the papers scrambled around to work out who we'd be signing.
