I was shocked to see those predictions by Kammy but he did say that he recently saw his name on some predictions but they were not his predictions. He also apologised for any offence.

Interesting...adds some experience and quality to the squad.

What does this mean for the likes of Hdoson and Doyley though?

I am not too comfortable with potentially having a whole team of new players...sure we needed some but as Tuesday proved it might take time for everything to work well and even if most are proved to be very good we won't get to keep them unless we go up.

Oh dear. I worry about aging has-beens. I think it has been fairly well established that ageing players at the end of their careers don't often do well in this division. Well, hope I am proved wrong.

It may not mean much to Hodson and Doyley other than the injection of real quality onto the training ground, which they would both benefit from. In his International days Cassetti was a midfielder not a defender and may be meant as competition for Sean Murray.

True..Whilst we all love Lloyd we know he won't be a Zola type and Hdoson does have dips in form when the crowd gets on his back.

If he's like the other loanees, we won't see him on the pitch for a while, while he gets fit/over an injury...etc!

And at his age, the loan period may well be over before he's ready to play. :(

I don't think we should pre-judge or make general statements - lets give it time and see if it is a good or poor move. As vic-rodje stated, Fillipo Galli was absolute class.

Only last summer many people on this board were saying we should try and get Kevin Phillips back, who seems to still be doing well. There have also been at various times calls for us to get Paul Robinson and Heidar back, both at the end of their careers, and although a couple of years younger, Tommy Smith. Perhaps it is the romantic side of having old favourites back. Also Iwelumo is 'at the end' of his career and in the latter part of last season did a good job for us.

Is it only what they do on the pitch that is important? Does having players like big Chris, like Galli when he was here, etc, help bring on other players on the training ground, in the dressing room etc. What influence are they bringing other than in actual matches? Agreed Matt Jackson was a complete waste, but so have many young players we have purchased or bought into the club.

The older players think more as they are not as fast as the young footballers. Heiðar is a good example for this, except he gets injured as well.

Although Mark doesn't say it, I think he's referring to aging players who have absolutely no knowledge of what the Championship is like to play in.

I am referring to two points. I think there is a danger that ageing players who have played in their top division may underestimate the qualities and skill required in a lower division and may be expecting an easier life. The other point is that by the very nature of their age, their fitness is decreasing, lowering their ability to play to their former level. When this point arrives will be different for each player, but like death and taxes, is a certain arrival. The problem is whether the player and club know when this is,and if they try to pretend it has not arrived. Whereas it is unlikely that older players will get better, there is more chance of a younger player improving.
