Not writing this to upset any UTD fans who may have wandered in- and the reason for me even entertaining it as a bet is because of how unlikely it is (which gives better value) but I'm starting to think about laying £10 on then finishing below 3rd. I think Chelsea are going to be strong this season, City too- I'm not sure who the third team would be but I do wonder if the 'psychological torture' which Ferguson hoped to inflict on City during the last day might have worked the other way. They need some bite in central midfield. It's somewhat kneejerk because of the Everton game, but I also think the team looks a little unbalanced and has a lot of good players but not many greats. No doubt come May I'll regret having written this! Never to be counted out (as I've essentially just done)
Disagree, Silkship. Although I think we're getting them at a good time, with their defence stretched thin, I still think United will win the title this year. And I thought that before they signed Van Persie, it's not just a response to their forward line of Fatman and Robin.
Yes I think the weight of evidence supports you and about 90% of me thinks they will be 1st or 2nd- just a hunch really. I'm in a position of regret because when AVB was laid off I did entertain the thought of £10 on FA & European cup double, told my friends I was going to do it, and then didn't.
The best way to beat us is to have a go at us. If you sit back and try and hit us on the counter, we'll just piracies you. If get in our faces like Everton did, you can get us on our back foot. It's inevitable we'll start pushing forward though. Then you have to hope your defenders our at the top of their game for 90+ minutes like Everton's were. I saw a statistic the other day that said Liverpool had 51 more shots on goal last season, but we had 41 more goals. . Your defense makes a single mistake and chances are it's a goal.
No didn't check at the time and would rather not know now- reckon the return on £10 would have been 4 digits.
The worst defensive setup they had was a couple of seasons back (with Carrick and Valencia in defence too, I think) and we beat them 3-1. I watched that with a United fan - bliss.
Evans might be fit, allowing Carrick to move forward to midfield, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Brazilian lad (I get them mixed up, I know they lent one to Everton and kept the better one themselves) at right back. Both of those moves would strengthen the team, although I like the idea of Riise and Kacaniklic having a go at either him or Valencia.
