All these links with players like Caesar, Dawson, carvalho etc echoes the situation last season when we rushed some purchases through at the last minute and then had to integrate them during a campaign. It does make you wonder whether the powers that be at loftus road really did think they had assembled the squad or starting eleven for this season having said 'that we have done our business early'! the result against swansea has obviously highlighted the need for strengthening and we are yet again leaving it to the last minute! Looking at this it could be thought that Hughes and his staff may just may have completely wasted a valuable pre season!
It still worries me that TF thinks we did all our good business early. He doesn't realise most of us know more about players than he does. Think MH used the pre season to sort out his fringe players rather than the first team. How many games did harriman and doughty get? What about Diakite?
So many of us on here said a centreback, fullback and central midfielder were essential and Saturday proved the point. He may have had those on his radar but the failure to address the weakest parts of the team earliest is embarrassing...
Its becoming more evident every day that Hughes is starting to crap himself. I'm starting to wonder if he even knows what he's doing.
i made this point in pre-season, surely he should have played his first 11 together a lot more to gel and get to know each other is that what pre-season is for.
Yet more alarmist tosh. How will September make or break im with three of the hardest fixtures of the season? Is that how short-termist we have become?
Fickle ... such is the pressure of the game and the game of the future ... Our first 3 points or a decent performance will squash all of that. It will be interesting I have already got to the stage where I find myself laughing at it all. We are the new Circus. I predict a lot of stubbiness from TF as remember he is only a front man himself! We will be buying a new team each transfer window ... City did it until it clicks ... It's a long term project I guess we will hearing that a lot ... It's a marketeer's wet team QPR at the moment ... The fact that we generate the drama is exactly what they want and in the process they get a massive addiction and a rush ... ask yourself what other reason have they for doing it? It building something simply because ... they can We will win this league boys ... it's in the post
That's a good post there. I think its me doing the panicking more so than Sparky and fat Thony! Of course you are correct Odders. Last season Bolton squashed us on the opening day and you - crazy man that you are - predicted we'd go up and beat Everton. And we did! "Hold the line" is Oddball's message and a good message it is too. Stay lucky you nut.
Hughes is too much of an egotist to crap himself. However, I share your fear that he is no where as good as he thinks he is.
Here we go again with the same old b*****ks! We know why last year's transfers happened as they did so let's forget that. As for this year, the bulk of our early season buys were on a free so they had to be signed early. As for who we're supposedly after now, it should be quite obvious that these players have only just come onto the market. So we couldn't have gone for them before. The reason it's all happening now is because most of the quality established premiership and European clubs have only just started their transfer dealings. Now they're buying, they're willing to sell their own. How do we know MH didn't contact spurs 3 weeks ago about Dawson, only to be told they'd let him know at the end of august? Same with all the other players we've been linked to.......
I would only agree with those teams who have new managers like avb at spurs with Dawson. Lets all wait til we get mullered on the opening day to realise what we have known for two seasons!! The transfer window opened ages ago the point is that it shuts soon and we may have to wait even longer for the team to click!!
Quite right. Dawson would not have been interested 3 weeks ago, he might not have even been on Hughes' radar, but when he did become available we were in like a shot. I am getting VERY tired of all the "we should have done all this weeks ago", "why didn't we get everything sorted out before pre-season?" and "now we are panic buying". It doesn't work like that, ffs. We looked at Buttner quite early on, but he held out and Man U came along. I know if I was a young player I would choose Manure over QPR 99 times out of a hundred. I don't hear people saying Ferguson is panicking it because he has signed three players in 10 days. Why did HE not do all his business before the start of pre-season? We all knew that RVP was going to be sold in order for the Arses to get some money out of him before he left on a free. So why didn't Fergie get him in June? I said this on another thread ... If we had rushed and done our business early we would have ended up with the likes of Bassong, probably on very silly money. We would be more likely to panic buy trying to get players in before pre-season. The only way to get some of them to sign would be to make them an offer they couldn't refuse and I am sure that TF, et al, are not prepared to go beyond a certain point.
This is a well thought out post. Some people just don't understand modern football and how the transfer market ACTUALLY works. They want players yesterday and nothing else will do. Sounds a lot like my 4 year old when she walks into a sweet shop. There will be lots of activity in the coming days as clubs finally get who they want and only then will they release players.
No way fickle, never wanted Hughes in the first place. How many worse managers than MH are there in the league? AVB, BSA, Pulis perhaps....
Some great responses and opinions as none of us really know who's available and when we enquire about them. Hughes obviously knew we needed defenders if the above is correct but was waiting til the last minute to get them......hmmm
August 18: Swansea (H) August 25: Norwich (A) September 1: Man City (A) September 15: Chelsea (H) September 22: Tottenham (A) September 29: West Ham (H) October 6: West Brom (A) How many points would you consider Hughes needs from those 7 matches to avoid the sack?
Our club was a laughing stock for the last number of years. We were basically a joke. I really think that the current owners/management are trying to keep our transfer dealings out of the media spotlight. Several of our signings have been done away from the media glare and surprised us. I am sure MH and his team have a list of players for every problem position. They are far far more experienced and knowledgeable than any of us on here. He knows well what needs to be fixed. Some of the players he may want might not even yet be available. It's a waiting game. Does he wait for the guy he wants or take the guy further down the list who is available now. It's not a simple science.
