Playing devil's advocate, as well as the money side of things kids may consider that the opportunity of training in better facilities, premier league academies with premier league coaches, and the opportunity of training with premier league/international players may help them develop into better players and give them a greater chance of making it as premier league player.

There are examples of young players breaking through from premier league academies into the first team, although many of them dont. But all young players will believe that they are good enough to do so in the future, particularly when premier league scouts put the notion into their heads.

Do you mean the nick barmby who went to rotten ham as a youngster, was a big hit in the premier league, went on to play for England then sent his own son to man u's academy to learn his trade? What a fantastic idea <laugh>

Is max from hull? Spotted and brought through our academy or pinched from somewhere like Leeds?

Barmby joined a top team at a young age, then sent his son to the top team at a young age. Say Man Utd had come in for him could Barmby realistically say to Clark that he shouldn't despite him sending his own son there?

If Man Utd or a top team come in for Clark, we'll almost certainly lose him. No matter who our manager is

Hull City were a complete shambles of a club when Nick Barmby went to Tottenham. Things are much changed and better club wise. I dont know the ins and outs of Barmbys son going to Man Utd or if he is good enough to stay there ? My point still stands. There are many pitfalls from this Big Club syndrome that sadly lights up kids today.

All you have done is highlight what is wrong with the game in this country. As for Barmbys son, I know what you are saying but her never was at Hull City. Max Calrk is.

The role i gave for Nick Barmby was one for advice and experience. He went off and made good. BUT BIG BUT he can point out the many pitffalls and problems and give sound advice to parents who maybe dont know what they should do. The whole thing boils down to whats best for that player - Not just the money and big club culture that blights the game today.

Jack Barmby was never at Hull City because Nick didn't want him to be, Jack didn't make that decision for himself when he went to Man Utd, his dad did. I'm not sure Max or at least his parents would be all too convinced about Nick talking about pitfalls, a successful premiership career and a successful England career due to joining a top team at a young age.

I know you're ever the optimist but nobody would be able to convince anyone at our youth setup not to join Man Utd's, it would never happen

And yes i know i've highlighted what's wrong with the game, why shouldn't i? It's a ****ing disgrace

Max is local, he went to Malet Lambert and was spotted playing for Barham Boys in the Hull Boys Sunday League, he's was signed up when he was ten.

Our youth set up and academy have appalling facilities, it's a miracle anyone's come through it at all and it's a disgrace that it wasn't addressed when we got into the Premier League, I'm not at all surprised parents want their kids to go to other clubs academies.

If a top four club comes in for any kid, in any league, they'll get them. Disappointing as they may be, it's absolutely the case.

And Jack Barmby is one of the most highly rated lads in the Man United academy.

Its just a shed and a field isnt it? Same as the first team.

Ive said for years our whole training facilities should be sorted before we **** about with new stadiums or extra seats when the one weve got is more than adequate for us.

Max Clark will get to 18/19, have one game in the first team then well sign a kid from man u and send him on loan to never be seen again, because thats what we do.

i have seen max clark play for the reserves and juniors more than 5 times combined. all i would say is, don't get too carried away. for 16 or 15 year old (which he was when i last saw him) yes he is good, but he still has loads and loads to learn. as i said his style of play is very Paul McShane. indeed his looks and demeanour were not unlike those of Macca. the only other words of caution i would say is how many England under 16s or 17s go on to have a high profile career in the game. its early days!

Henri Lansbury, Danny Welbeck, Danny Rose, Victor Moses, Dan Gosling, Alex Smithies - and that's just from one squad in 2007.

its one of them situations where for every one that does theres a lot more that dont, i remember michael branch was the next big thing when i was a nipper, he was sent to us in league two a couple of years later..even tho i liked him to be fair but he wasnt quite the world star it looked as tho he might be when he was 16

Speaking of Jack Barmby, he's just been called up to the England U19's squad to face the German U19's next month

He's still highly regarded at Burscough F.C, one of the best players in the Northern Premier League apparently.

John Welsh was one of 11 lads singled out as a certain future England player by an FA committee headed by Trevor Brooking.

He looked like one too, he was just never the same after that bad leg break, I still remember the sound of it cracking to this day.
