Fulham have two of them (for now at least) in Dembele and Dairra who completely ran the show on Saturday.

Doubt we could have afforded Huddlestone's wages in all honesty. HE is a fantastic player though.

****, has he signed for them already? He'd have been perfect if he can stay fit, though that's a pretty big "if" to be honest and I don't really expect him to play much more than half the season based on his career this far.

completely agree. another club who successfully operates in the premier league who have at least one holding player of real quality. fulham, for me, are the model we need to be trying to emulate - they've been a top flight team for twelve years now. these days, they don't spend big money on players but they've got a young and vibrant team which is both organised at the back but exciting going forward. dembele is absolutely outstanding - i cannot see them keeping hold of him past january. now he's a £20m player, not jordan henderson <laugh>

Huddlestones a "nearly" player, I don't rate him.

    not sure what that means.

do you mean 'nearly' a top four player? in which case i would agree, but we aren't a top four team - he'd be our best player. he does what fox does but with a presence and he can get stuck in - exactly the type of player we should be looking for.

    he'll be wasted at stoke.

Yes, but we seem to be missing quite a few tricks. For example, Clyne. Too busy farting around trying to get a second rate goalie who will take up one place in our squad on account of his age.

He's never fulfilled his potential, has a long history with injury, just doesn't do it for me.

He's only 25 though Beef, which I have to say amazed me as I thought he'd been around longer than that for some reason.

Here's another name to throw in the hat - Jermaine Jenas.
Spuds are looking to offload him and in my opinion he would definitely add some quality to our squad. Once again whether or not we could afford him would be the big question as I'm sure he would be Hoot's type of player.

    ???

    are you being serious?

what is your point? we were never in for clyne as far as i'm aware. good player but if he's not on the radar, how have we 'farted about'?

i think you need to get a grip cos you've posted that you're 'losing faith' after one, albeit very bad, result. thank god most of our fans aren't being as melodramatic as you...

Jermaine Jenas is absolute tosh. Wouldn't want to go anywhere near him at all. He doesn't even play DM so would be taking the place of either Howson or Surman who are both twice the player of Jenas just without the big name.

hmm, i tend to agree with irdan on this. i don't think jenas is 'absolute tosh', i think that's a bit harsh, but i don't think he'd be a good holding player.

Absolute tosh is a bit harsh on his ability - more in relation to how good he thinks he is. Bit like Bendtner...I wouldn't call him tosh but in comparison to how good he thinks he is well then yes, I would ;-)

You boys obviously know more about Jenas' personality than I because I'd never got that impression about him at all. And I was always of the understanding he plays as a defensively minded midfielder, certainly far more defensive than either Howson or Surman and I have to disagree that Surman is "twice the player" I'm afraid. On the evidence of what? Johnny Howson may well become a far better player than JJ, but I wouldn't say even he has reached the level of a guy who has won 20 odd England caps just yet. You don't get to play for your country that many times by being "absolute tosh" if you ask me.

Not saying he would solve that particular conundrum, just saying he is an option who is being made available.

i wouldn't agree about jenas being worse than surman but i don't think he plays the holding role at all. he is more box-to-box. he's pretty good, but would he improve our current side? not so sure. we need a specialist holding player but its another name to throw in the hat though!
