    QPR after Mayuka’s signature
August 22, 2012 | Filed underSports | Posted by mitia By IGNATIUS MAZEKO -

ENGLISH Premier League side Queens Park Rangers are plotting a capture of about K27 billion (£3.5 million) of Chipolopolo striker Emmanuel Mayuka from Swiss Super League outfit, BSC Young Boys.

According to British publication, Daily Mirror, Queens Park Rangers, popularly known as QPR, are ready to snap up Mayuka who finished as 2012 Orange Africa Cup top scorer with three goals from six matches.

The Mirror states that QPR coach Mark Hughes is keen on wooing the 21-year-old former Kabwe Warriors player because of his impressive scoring record at club level and for the Chipolopolo since leaving Zambia in 2008.

“Bern will sell if the price is right; leaving the west Londoners to obtain work permit for Mayuka, who moved to Switzerland in 2010 following a two-year spell at Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv.

“That should not be a problem as the five feet nine inch front-man has played 36 times for Zambia in serious competition, scoring 10 goals,” reads the article in yesterday’s Daily Mirror.

If the deal succeeds, Mayuka will become the first Zambian player to feature for the ‘Hoops’ who already have three African players from Mali, Morocco and Senegal on their books.

Mayuka’s exploits at the 2012 Orange Africa Cup in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, where Chipolopolo coach Herve Renard played him as a lone striker, attracted interest from top European teams.

He scored a crucial goal that sunk Ghana in the semi-finals, setting a showdown with pre-tournament favourites, Ivory Coast who the Chipolopolo beat 8-7 on penalties, with the Kabwe-born player converting one of the spot kicks.

Mayuka, who joined Young Boys on a five-year contract following a transfer fee of about K8.5 billion (US$1.7 million), has already netted two league goals for the Berne-based outfit this season in six matches.

He netted Chipolopolo’s lone goal in the friendly match against South Korea last week on Wednesday in Seoul, which the 2002 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists won 2-1.

Great, another decent striker who won't score because the ball isn't getting through. Until the final pass/cross/set piece produces balls for the goalscorers to latch on to we might as well field Mr Blobby up front.
