For me it has to be Everton. No money for years( although I don`t quite know why, having been in the prem from the outset!!) Watching them tonight beating Man.Utd. with all the money they`ve spent you`ve got to say that David Moyes is a miracle worker.I realise we`ve come from a long way back and TP has done really well,it`s quite apparent that the tactics we`ve used so far are not going to work and my big worry is that our manager is unable to change, and lets face it our style of football is not that attractive.Having said that,I do hate to watch all this sideways passing and players having got into a great position then decide to pass it backwards and start all over again!! Everton seem to play attractive football and unearth really good players with minimum resources.
An easy one for me too guys.. What David Moyes has done at Everton is nothing short of remarkable. One of the few clubs who don't overspend but always compete in the Premier League. No glamour player's and good luck to them! Always liked Newcastle as well, probably due to the fact my dad was a Geordie and I was born in the North East. Great folks, fantastic supporters and I hope they can do even better this season... still hope we can give em a better game this season though. My 2nd team always have been.
Everton, Fulham (under Jol) and Newcastle I think have done exceptionally well with very low net spend and seem to play good open positive football. However, spare a thought for Swansea who are positive in term s of money spent and are still playing superb football. Another contender - Southampton? Back to Back promtion with a NET spend of 3 Million and they were excellent AWAY against City.
I have to agree with all the above . I have reservations about Newcastle(sorry Potts) because they have spent big in the past, but what Pardew has done there I must admit is amazing, lets see if they can keep it going. As for Swansea,Soton and Fulham, yeah, they`ve never spent big,but the first two have got to carry it on for a while, wheras Fulham have been there and maintained their Prem status for years.
Joe, IF I was'nt a Stoke fanatic. Newcastle would be the team I would support mate.. born there, family still there, logic I suppose although my dad saw them many times. I was only 4 when we moved down to Stoke.. So I'm not born but I'm bred a Stokie Joe as they say...
I agree, what Moyes has done with Everton is a miracle on the budget that the club is run on. I would however like to throw another team into the mix too, I think that what Wigan have done in the past season or so is brilliant. I know that they were nearly relegated but their performances week in week out were absolutely fantastic, they were just missing that final piece of the jigsaw. The football that they play is superb and entertaining, and I think that Martinez is a top manager. As everyone have said on here Everton win it by some margin for me too, but Wigan look to be a team on the up and even played well when losing 2 nil to Chelsea on Sunday. We have got Wigan A week on Saturday and I personally dont fancy it one bit. UTPsssssssssssssssss
I understand completely Potts.I`ve never lived nearer than 40miles from Stoke but my mum was born in Stoke and her side of the family are all true Potters (literally) and I`ve always had an affinity with STOKE. My fathers side of the family(his mum)came from Wolverhampton but they settled on the Wirral, where a lot of people support Liverpool or Everton, but I was never tempted because when we visited my mums family my dad used to take me to watch Stoke,my grandad was a Stoke supporter.I remember being the only person at school who supported Stoke(this was when the team had Lawrie Leslie in goal,Tony Allen and Bill Asprey as full backs, eric Skeels etc. Sorry for all the reminisces but those were the times when we played attractive football and could also dream of winning the1st Division, not like now where it`s more a question of survival every year for all except 3 or 4 teams.
Joe, I remember those player's.. funny thing is, Tony Allen went on to teach at Moorland Rd, training school (Engineering) Great guy he was. Nowt wrong with looking back Joe. And, I think you are older than me too? Apart from Nicky b and Old Boothen I thought I was.. also WADDO I think.
Everton without a doubt. Top club, exceptionally well run, by a fine, intelligent chairman and one of the best managers in Europe. I've said since promotion that Everton should be the team we should look emulate as they have developed a good style of play, a mix of the direct balls to Fellaini and Jelavic and also very good footballers in the middle spraying it around.
