I suppose that's true but I doubt Chelsea will sell him to a rival and he's also English which will add a lot more money to his price tag. The real question is, is she worth the price that we'll end up paying due to the fact we're a rival and he's English?

Anything around £12mil considering his age and potential but wouldn't want to go much higher. And if Chelsea get Hulk then can't see him wanting to stay there and play out wide and 3rd choice behind Torres & Hulk. Wages might be an issue, probably on quite high wages at Chelsea already and would want a bit increase I'd have thought.

I agree about the fee, anything higher than 15m at least and I'd rather we didn't. But yes, I think his wages will be an issue, it would depend whether or not he'd be willing to take a pay cut to get almost guaranteed first team football.

4. I found it amusing that folks are saying Sturridge is too greedy but a fair few of you have also said they would like to see Adam Johnson join. Very similar players IMO <ok>

I'm not bothered about AJ tbh, I'd rather we get Dempsey <ok>

6. I'm not so keen on Dempsey, what makes me keen is the possibility of Adam going the opposite way <ok>

I was literally just about to put that <laugh>

5m + Adam, I certainly ain't going to complain! He scores goals which is something we lack.

I'd take AJ, Sturridge and Demsey, TBH. Greedy? Yes. But they'd give us guile, goals and graft. And we currently require more of all three of those qualities.

Lopez/Barrios/negredo, AJ, possibly Dempsey because Adam will be gone and we would actually have quality depth up top, not just "depth"

10. At Fulham:

2006–07: 10 games and 1 goal
2007–08: 36 and 6
2008–09: 35 and 7
2009–10: 29 and 7
2010–11: 37 and 12
2011–12: 37 and 17
Total: 184 and 50

That is not the record of a proven goal scorer. Don't get me wrong, it is not bad for a midfielder but we don't want him for midfield and he played a lot of games up top for Fulham last year too.

Is he the man for Suarez and Gerrard to play off...? I'm not sure about that either.

Got better every year though, even though he is 29 he works hard and keeps his fitness so would be able to go for many years. He also gets in the box to at least be able to have a chance to score, something else we are criminally bad at.

I really do think we need an out-and-out goal scorer. A goal machine. Robbie Fowler Mark II would be nice! ;) <ok>

Agree to a certain extent but being greedy can be a good thing. Johnson being greedy on the wing means he will try take on his player rather than cutting back and passing the ball back to defence (Downing last year?) however being too greedy means cutting in and shooting even when players are in better positions.

Sturridge, being greedy could mean he takes responsibility and takes more shots so is more likely to score.

I'd take either at the right price, but think Sturridge would be a better signing cosidering he offers more goals.

Owen is available. Putting everything aside, would he be worth the risk? Pay as you play contract? Let's be honest, with Suarez doing all the hard work and creating the chances, just needs to pass to Owen and 1 in 3 he'd stick away....

Controversial i know

Owen has lost his pace, which was a huge part of his game.

£20-25m for Adam Johnson and Daniel Sturridge. Two young (ish), tricky, fast players ...

Would add another dimension to our attack.

17. I have no worries about us getting a greedy player. Just thought it was amusing that some wanted one but not the other when they are such similar players <ok>

18. I reckon I'd rather stick to mid-table mediocrity than Mo return <ok>

19. I'd love to see both arrive but that would also mean Suarez sticking it out up top

My only concern with Johnson is his attitude as he doesn't seem like the sort of character to fight hard for the cause, nor work hard to win the ball back?

I would definately have Sturridge - has skills, pace and can score some clinical goals. If we can one or the other, along with Assaidi, we will finally have some pace in our team!

James Pearce from the Echo says that we have distanced ourselves from a move for Johnson.
