You obviously haven't watched the Wire if you chuck it in with Lost and 24. The biggest problem with the Wire for many was that it needed too much of an attention span. The US makes the best high quality television consistently. When you look at the UK equivalents such as Spooks or Ultimate Force with Ross Kemp there is no comparison - the only thing you can compare is ****e reality tv shows.
Has anyone watched Sons of Anarchy? one of my mates reckons it's excellent ( but , then he is a biker )
English comedy (not cartoon stuff like Simpsons I mean acted stuff) is sooooooooooooooooooo much better than US shows. Pretty much every successful English sitcom has been copied (Office) or an attempt has been made (IT crowd). The US win when it comes to big productions, the UK just can't keep up financially with the big american production houses.
Series 4 & 5 of the Wire were mediocre compared to the first three...The Sopranos was class all the way through. Blue Bloods is utter ****ing gash, I rue the day I started watching that ****e
You've got to be joking. English comedy is terrible. For every decent show, there are dozens of abortions like 'My Family' or 'Last of the Summer Wine'. I doubt I could name 10 decent English comedy series made in the last 20 years.
So? They're still better than most American comedies. Apart from the classics like Frasier recently all US comedy has been ****e. England makes some poor shows but some are brilliant, like Shameless or Peep Show. Even IT Crowd and Lead Ballon have their moments
Add to that list Miranda, and the Kumars Still, Scottish comedy churns out some ****e. Limmie Burnistoun
Aye, definitely. I actually quite like Blue Bloods, but I think it's mainly for Tom Selleck and his majestic lip warmer. It's still nowhere near NCIS:Los Angeles. LL Cool J My bird says the other NCIS is better
I kinda agree with your point. You seen that one about the jew who is a private detective at night? Bored to death I think it's called.....very apt
Yeah that show is ****, I watched the first 3 episodes and it just wasn't funny at all. 30 Rock is ok, Alec Baldwin alone is worth watching it for.
Nah I haven't, but I was a student for a while and watched pretty much everything made in the last 5-6 years, and the only funny stuff the US makes are the cartoons (South Park, Family Guy, etc...). You should really watch Trailer Park Boys, all 7 seasons are on Google Videos and it's the funniest show I've ever seen, takes a couple of episodes to get going properly but it's worth it!!
I'm not claiming that the US is churning out loads of decent comedy. I took issue with your claim the English comedy was 'sooooooooooooooooooo much better'. There's really not a lot of decent stuff about at the moment and hasn't been for some time.
Don't get me wrong this country makes some dreadful shows: Coming of Age, 2 Pints of Lager, most Channel 4 shows... There just aren't that many good US ones proportionally to the good ones
