From recent comments it is obvious that Ramirez is a troublemaker on the scale of Genghis Kahn...he will be a flop who will run home to Mamma. We will lose all our money, get a double relegation and go bust. Stop Cortese now...do not buy this man.

Godfather references are getting a little old, guys. Goblin Joe dislikes repetition.

HR, you're normally quite sensible but you really are posting some drivel. We're not little old Southampton in the Dell any more and football isn't the same as it was. It'd be nice if we could win the league with our bunch of kids from local primary schools spending nothing more than a couple of shillings on our most extravagant days, but something tells me that won't happen.

A road still long and full of obstacles. Gaston Ramirez is further away from England, there are problems in the negotiations between Bologna and Southampton. There are, in fact, guarantees and are too high percentages agents. He continues to deal with, but now it is more difficult ...

Exactly. I know alot of our favourite memories of Saints remain in our days at the Dell, when lets face it, football was a hell of a lot different, but now it has changed. Lucrative sponsorship twinned with vast TV moneys = alot more expenditure which would have previously been seen as extortionate.

I have never got this bit about agents. An agent works for the player, so therefore the player should pay them out of their earnings (15-20% is normal I believe). I wouldn't thank my agent for blocking the move I wanted. It seems on the continent and South America that the players sell their souls.

We've probably spent all the AOC money.

Why? And even if we have, we made alot of money from promotion and have rich owners who will have money in different budgets in all areas of the club. I.E. I wouldn't be surprised if the £15million spent on the training ground was tucked away, and away from the amount we had for transfers.

Considering the success we've achieved with double promotion and getting into the holy grail of the PL, I don't think we've spent a lot of money. We spent a fair amount by League 1 standards but not overmuch by Championship standards, so we have money to spend...wisely. We are not Man City/Chelsea rich, but are comfortably off. We are probably spending money we have, whereas I suspect many PL teams are spending future money.

Lifted this from SaintsWeb poster itchen_dan:

So the problem is totally down to finance and how we pay. The Corriere della Sport journo now says that the issue is that Bologna dont trust us to pay the remaining 5m euros.

This all stems from a transfer last year. Bologna sold Osvaldo to Espanyol. He then moved on to Roma and Espanyol stopped paying the remaining installments on the transfer. Therefore Bologna now dont trust us to complete the deal in a years time just because 1 club messed up.

Cortese said that the money for the training facilities was allowed for by ML right from the beginning. It is a separate sum. He also said that money was there for the 5 year plan and more for when we were in the PL. A financial guy (sorry can't remember what his position is) said on promotion that we hadn't spent the money set aside to gain promotion, so we had cash in hand. How much is the mystery.

I assume we used that money for our fee paying transfers after we sold AOC.

Fox, Sharp, Hooiveld, Rodriguez, Clyne, and Gazzaniga's fees have probably cost £12m-£15m together.

Fair point, but as Fran says, there was a pot of gold set aside for when we reached the prem. So taking off Rod (6.5), Clyne (2) and Gazzaniga (1.5-2) we only used less than £5 million on the players who signed after AOC left.
