Was surprised to see us play one up top at home, especially to Swansea. (No disrespect.) Surely we must go back to 4-4-2 against Norwich? 4-5-1 come 4-3-3 just doesnt seem to bode well for us for whatever reason. So in my perosnal opinion i'd like to see Cisse and Bobby up top this weekend and go hell for leather for the 3 points. Based on last weeks performance we certainly cant defend so we may as well try and outscore teams. ''We're 'Rangers we're gonnna score one more than you......''
One up front at home gets on my wick but I expect Sparky will pack out the midfield and leave Cisse up on his own against Norwich. At least until we have let 3 in and are chucking everyone up field (deja vu). On one hand I would hope we can stick a few in the net on Saturday but equally I am sh1tting it that Green will be getting a lot more picking up practice.
Cisse is not a target man. He needs someone to play alongside and that is what Zamora does best. Hoilett left wing, Tarbs right, fingers crossed for the other seven.
My thoughts exactly (Provided tarbs pulls his finger out) Otherwise its Mackie for 60 mins - Tarbs for 30.
We need a flexible formation, but I'm still a big fan of the old-fashioned 4-4-2. If we had a forward who could 'convert' to a midfielder when we're defending a lead or under the cosh, so much the better as we could adapt to a 4-5-1 swiftly without changing personnel, and then reverting to our stronger 4-4-2 whenever possible. It's possible Tarbs could become that player, but on Saturday he was miles away from Cisse all the time.
442 definitley at home and against weaker opposition. Away from home and even at home against the top clubs I am happy for us to play one at front.
We cant play any formation without Zamora, Hughes has got himself into a real pickle now. 442 is the only option if Cisse is playing and we can only do that if Zamora is fit. We have big trouble playing any formation without Zamora now that Hughes sold HH.
Hell No! With our defense it would be suicide. We need to play 4-2-3-1, with at least 2 CDM's protecting our sh*t back 5. Cisse can play on the right of the 3 and get forward with BZ, and hopefully outscore our opponents.
Reckon there might be a strke through the doors before the window closes? if there is he can hold it open for Betty and DJ as they pass in the other direction.
A 442 also has 2 CMDs and the wingers play further back as well. A 4231 is more like a 424 and you get killed on the counter with it as Swansea proved when we played it.
You can get killed on the counter with any formation if they are too far forward! We have looked most solid in games where we played 4-2-3-1 or variations of that, 4-5-1 in particular, as we used with some success at the end of last season - in our final home games and away at Citeh. We were rubbish in 4-4-2 earlier under MH when he first come, and don't have the necessary box to box quality CM's or CB's to play it.
Thinking about it, we played an even more defensive formation and still got killed on the break with 3 CM. Hoilett offered nothing defensively, in fact i cant even remember him going into his own half.
Its' the irony on how we played, 4 attacking midfielder, all 4 playing too high up to support the DM and yet not High enough to support the Striker ! Thats actually not true as Mackie did try to get in the box when Hoilett was out wide.
HUddlestone to help shore up the middle anyone? Would certainly add to the squad until Ali is 100%. Maybe then we can try a 4-2-3-1 and see how we get on. Until then, I dont think we have the players to play anything but 4-4-2. We must play to our strength and at this moment in time our strength is up top.
