Ironman, Personally think we will beat Norwich , Spurs have got AVB, now would you swap our man Mark for him?? Thought not. We may have a chance of something there. We will not beat Norwich as MH does not do away wins, best we can hope for is a draw Would I swap AVB for MH, 100% I would
You're right it was a strange pre season. It felt a little bit like he still didn't know much about a few of the fringe players. It looks very much now like he was using those games to see who he should keep and who he should get rid of, as opposed to getting this year's team to gel. He could've saved a lot of time and effort by just reading our forum. Whatever the thread and whatever s**t we all talk about, when it comes to players we don't want to keep at the club, the same names always crop up! We can't all be wrong can we!!
Cheers for nothing matt, all I can think of now is 3 pieces of succulent southern fried goodness, fries and slaw!!
That is a very fair criticism. I do wonder if we'd benefit from one of those pre-season tournaments. They're not much to play for but if you give competitive people anything to try to win then they usually rise to the occasion.
Just a thought on the Swansea result...I recall Man City hammering Man UTD at OT 1-6...these 2 teams are a good comparison to us vs Swansea in my mind...freak result? Some excellent posts on this thread and I agree with many of them. I really do think we need to give the team a little bit of time to click. With a bit of time and some confidence, we could well be handing out 5-0 beatings just like we received. Time will tell and the team and manager will be judged on a number of performances, not just one (albeit a very depressing one). Back to the OP. I firmly believe Junior and Adel can play in the same team, one out wide one behind Cisse. They could swap at times throughout the match and this is what I would like to see...makes a defenders job far more difficult. Whether they deserve to be in the same team at the moment is another matter...this is for Sparky to decide based on form and tactics. Surely this is a good "conundrum" to have as a manager...people fighting for playing positions. Choosing between 3 or 4 quality players for 2 positions on the pitch is the norm in this league no? I do agree we are a little light on the battling midfield general type, but with Ali coming back and dare I say it Mr Barton due back (?), we should hopefully be ok. Would be good to see some youngsters filling in here as well.
COL's fu*king hilarious Any disagreement and he takes it as a personal atttack!!! Gotta love him though
I just had a look at our away record under Mark Hughes it's dreadfully poor I wonder long that is going to last?
"QPR have been dreadful away from home - they have the worst away points haul in the League picking up just 11 (and ten of those were gained whilst Warnock was in charge), and it’s hard to see that stat changing with trips to Stamford Bridge and Eastlands to come. As a compiler, this isn't a massive surprise. Mark Hughes teams have always performed well at home, but his insistence on playing for draws away from home has backfired at previous clubs and is backfiring spectacularly this season. His away record as a manager since leaving Blackburn makes very poor reading. He presided over a total of four Premier league away wins during his year and a half in charge of Man City and, despite leading Fulham into Europe, during his year there he only managed three away wins the entire season. It is clear to see watching QPR away from home that we seem to play with a fear of losing. Now is not the time for that fear to be an issue. "
Fair enough, it was a horrendous result and none of us can have derived much, if any pleasure, from it. Agree about HH compared to Bothroyd. Bit unfair to start blaming the problem on a lack of right back. He might have been our fourth choice and we were chasing those first three down cul-de-sacs before getting Bosingwa. Also, Hughes won't be dealing with the contracts. People can't blame our board because the've done so much so it's easier to blame Hughes for not sorting it early enough (since he's now public enemy number one). I haven't been aware of that much unrest prior to Saturday (except calls for a CB and maybe CM) and no one has really questioned Hughes until the last 3 days. Park's appointment as captain is debatable although no-one can deny he leads by example. The old cliche of needing many captains on the pitch is true and the likes of Hill and Ferdinand should be telling those in front of them what they expect irrespective of whether or not they have the armband. I look at the prediction competition and there was a unanimous cry of "comprehensive victory" including your 3-1. There weren't too many people stating "Hughes is tactically naive and is a long way off knowing his best formation" - that suggests that these doubts have surfaced (or resurfaced) in the last few days Agree that Faurlin sits in well and has more discipline to cover the back four and keep things ticking over than Park or Diakite (who just love being somewhere near the ball where ever that may be). We have an abundance of riches. This isn't exactly a problem - if Hoilett and Taarabt can't be accommodated in the same team then they're fighting for their places and the best man will win (the same way that Park and Mackie wil be fighting albeit much harder for the right mid spot). You're completely right that Cisse needs Zamora up front with him otherwise should form part of a 5 man midfield and then be given an advanced role. This would also suggest that, if Hoilett takes the wide left role then Taarabt and Cisse are in direct competition for the support role behind. Again, not bad competition for places. Essentially, we're having this conversation based on one competitive match - can Cisse cover it up front with those attacking mids behind him/the dynamics of Park/Hoilett/Taarabt etc - that makes it reactionary IMO - it's a response to the observations of one game and the bits pieced together from the odd friendly where combinations of teams have been tested. If this isn't knee-jerk then I don't know what is. We've lost a game and may (reasonably expect to) lose the next 4 (based on your logic). The basis of this is then the last game. We're, therefore, 3 points off expectation and might be after 5 games. After this, we expect the firing squad to be lurking round the corner? What happens if the next one doesn't cut it within 5 games or do we give him the rest of the season with Hughes' squad and then give him 5 of the new season before pulling the trigger? This is Flavio-esque in its brutality. Man U lost 6-1 last year, Arsenal 8-2, us 6-0 twice (see we're still at less tonkings than last year). I've seen seasons where Everton have had a couple of points after 10 games and, luckily for them, didn't chop Moyes because they finished in the top half. So it's crazy to be calling for Hughes head after one game but woe betide him if he doesn't deliver in four games that he's not expected to get anything from? Should we do it? One answer:- "A huge conundrum when things really should be pretty settled!" - RangerCol [2012 - shortly after a freak result] I know you won't like this but please don't see it as a personal attack - it's just responding to specific points rather than the general vibe I got from the thread last night after reading 60+ responses. I won't comment on you labelling my comment as very poor (despite it being in relation to the thread in general). Matt
As much as i agree with you Matt on your points raised we are talking a Saab 95 2.3 turbo ... you don't make that choice by mistake
As a non driver just wondered what a Saab was? Can work out the numbers as they are just numbers but....
SAAB is an acronym for "Svenska Aeroplan AB (aktiebolaget)" (Swedish for "Swedish Aeroplane Limited")
At last you can see my formation don't tell Flyer Time to watch Park in action:
Can anyone justify why MH was correct to take off Clint on Saturday and replace him with SWP? I can't and that is part of the conundrum that I will never understand. IMO MH proved that he was a) inept or b) off his rocker!
