There is absolutely no chance that Redknapp will be England manager. He may have escaped a criminal conviction over his tax affairs, but the FA despises any kind of controversy. Redknapp is a controversial character. Consequently, he was and never will be in the running for England manager.
Spurf, what I'm asking is what would satisfy you to keep AVB on as a minimum not to judge him yet. For instance if we are 5th at Christmas would you say keep him or sack him. If we end up 7th at the end would you keep him or sack him? What's your minimum to keep AVB?
If we're 5th at Xmas I'll be well happy. But I also still want us in the Europa and Carling at that stage, I'm more interested in the Cups this season as I've already written off top 4. I'd happily take 7th, and top of our Europa Group, plus looking to Wembley in the Carling.
It typically takes a manager at least 3 transfer windows to get the kind of squad they want, although AVB has the advantage of having a lot of players that suit his style already here. I'm prepared to forgive most things this season but I'll be disappointed if we're not competing for a top 4 spot as we have good enough players to be up there.
I think the reason a lot of fans turned against arry was because of the way he handled the england job and the way he allowed it to wreck our season so you can understand why some fans don't speak that highly of him. However I still believe the fans that were anti-arry at the end remember how great he was for us, how couldn't they? no one is that stubborn, as he was fantastic for us and really did take us to the next level (from previous), he just couldn't push on from that level and was that down to his limitations or the limitations of the club? Reason I say that is because we was spoilt by the way he we got 3rd, pretending to challenge for the title, are we going to see us go on a run like that again in the future? I doubt it. Yes arry had his flaws with tactics but what about his positives as a manager? they outweighed the negatives but if arry had just been more open minded then he could have been a great. AVB clearly puts more focus on tactics and training but is that going to out-do arrys old skool methods? as thats what as fans we really want, we want to win silverware, get back in the champions league as otherwise the owners need to take a look at how they run the club.
So long as Spurs don't spend AVB will be okay. With no money comes no expectation. It seems ENIC didn't want Spurs to push on after an extremely successful 3 years and are happy to just accept top 6. If that's the direction they want I personally feel Spurs and AVB will be fine, there is more than enough talent at your disposal to achieve that year in year out
Disagree I said months ago Harry will be England manager for the World Cup and stand by it. Upholding morals and principles cost Capello his job so why would Hodgson (who the media despise equally) fair any differently?
I don't think we will push on until we have a new Stadium, but then i think we will be in the mix every season, for the title.
He might be manager by then but I can't see England being qualified if he is. The FA won't sack Hodgson unless he royally ****s up our qualifying. I wouldn't be surprised to see 'Arry get a job at Reading this season and be sitting in waiting for the England job to come around again. I don't think that's the case at all, the trouble is by spending big for the sake of it we'll be reliant on regular CL football minimum and when everyone around us is spending big it just doesn't make sense. We're far better off investing money in keeping our current players and looking to pick up quality on the cheap like VDV, Ade, AVB, etc. There's no lack of ambition but there's much better sense in building slowly and patiently, playing the long game to compete at the top with the money teams who will consistently spend over £100mill a year more than us. Splashing out even half that this summer would not represent value for the financial risk involved.
We shouldn't be looking to replace him unless we have an absolute nightmare. We're trying to advance the club on various levels, with new state of the art training facilities, a new stadium supposedly on it's way and a new focus on youth. It'll take some time to come to fruition and he'll need some to adjust to a new side, too. He should be allowed to make some mistakes, as he figures out what we need to do to get the best out of our current squad and where we need to improve it. How I'll personally judge his performance this season will largely depend on who we bring in and allow to leave over the next 10 days. If we replace Modric with someone suitable and sort out our forward line, then expectations will be raised. If not, then he'll have a tough job on his hands.
we have to give AVB time,it's not a overnight job,it might take a couple of Season's,but i think we will move forward's,and keep him as long as we not in Danger of relegation.
For me, based on the current squad the bare minimum requirements are... League: Fifth Europa League: Quarter Finals FA Cup: Quarter Finals CO Cup: Fourth Round - use it to blood the youngsters first and foremost Going one better in the league or one of the Europa League/FA Cup isn't beyond the squad if it has a striker or two added to it.
Really? Bale hit the bar, Defoe scored, forced Krul to make a decent save and hit the post, Lennon in my opinion was the most dangerous player on the pitch for us - providng the cross in which Bale hit the bar and the one for Defoe to score, granted he gave away the penalty but what do you expect when you have two attacking midfielders trying to defend against Newcastle's most trickiest player. I thought for the first game of the season it was encouraging signs, especially as we're used to seeing Defoe staying central and the odd switch of sides between Bale and Lennon, throughout the 90 minutes all three players were covering each side of the final third and the Newcastle defence didn't seem comfortable with it. Unfortunately, the rest of the midfield and defence weren't supplying them with enough ammo to push on for more goals.
he has a good squad, but can they all play the formation he wants to play.if they can then 5th or 6th should be on.if they can't then less than 5th/6th is'nt failure imo.
I don't know. Even then there are still some massive clubs to compete with. City, United, Arsenal, Chelsea and even Newcastle and Liverpool could come into the mix. At present I think only City and United are realistic contenders, Chelsea and Arsenal pretenders, the rest not good enough at the moment. Hodgson defending Terry as the FA are trying to bury him will have infuriated them, he's not popular with fans and isn't a "big name". I don't think you had to spend £100m but if you sold Modric as well as a few bit part players you'd get £40m easily and with £15m or so of your own money you'd have a squad easily capable of pushing on. i'm still amazed Defoe is your only striking option with the season having started and second round of fixtures round the corner.
