It really annoys me that whem we'll play Man U they get called 'united'. As if there is only one! For a start we were called it before they were - by 20 years! Of course we wernt the first though, i think it was Sheffield. And what is even more annoying is that Manchester United (and Sheffield United as it happens) - arnt! With both teams having neighbouring clubs. I remember going into an Irish Bar in Cardiff after the FA Cup semi and the bouncer saying to me - Sorry 'United only'. So i said "aye, thats me" . "No he says, you're a Geordie (i wasnt wearing colours), Thats right says i - Can i come in now? " He just looked confused. Stupid Irish Prick. Rant over. Great Result by the lads last night. Good team effort.
Pisses me off aswell, even ****ing Danny Simpson refers to them as UNITED on twitter. A couple of the fans have pulled him about it.
Tend to just refer to us as The Toon so it doesn't really bother me. You're right about them not being "united" though. How the **** can a city have to clubs and one of the claim to be them United? They have FC United as well. It's because the stupid Mancs don't realise it's an actual word, they just think it's a suffix for a team name.
Good thread. Same is increasingly happening with 'City' for Man City. Don't let the Mancs start monopolizing our language!
