What the **** is wrong with these ****s?

The bombs sent to Lennon, McBride and the politician were considered by to be "viable bombs".

This is a black mark on our country.

    ****ing shameful.

I wasn’t aware of a politician having been sent a letter bomb, so I needed to google it. Amongst other things, I got this from the BBC:

It is understood that specialist anti-terrorist officers are involved in the investigation but a source close to the inquiry said they were "not linking this to any terrorist organisation".

Henry McDonald, Ireland Correspondent for The Guardian, said that made sense: "I think in terms of the main loyalist terror organisations that are now on ceasefire and say they've decommissioned, I think they'd be frankly embarrassed by this kind of thing.

"They would regard it as a thing of the past and rather as an irritant and an embarrassment to loyalism so I suspect it's an individual or individuals who maybe had bomb-making experience in the past who are disgruntled and looking for hate figures."

That’s possibly (and probably) about right. But “disgruntled”? Jesus. I can imagine shouting at the dog or maybe wallowing in self-pity and humming myself a sentimental ballad whilst feeling disgruntled, but sending letter bombs? That sounds more like the work of someone who is entirely disconnected from any reasonable sense of reality.

I hope they catch whoever is responsible, obviously, if only to hear their reasons for doing such a thing. It’s too early to say for sure if this is a Rangers fan (or fans) – and I hope to God it’s merely some mad loner with palpably weird fixations, because I can’t bear the thought of further joyless antagonisms between fans of the two Glasgow teams – but the distinguishing connection between the three people on the receiving end of the bombs is so very obviously Celtic that it doesn’t look too good on that front.

In answer to your original question, however – what’s wrong with these people? – I have absolutely no idea.

From my reading around Rangers supporters websites this morning the consensus is that 'It wasn't us' - it was probably a Celtic supporter trying to shame Rangers.

This blaming everyone else but themselves is now a culture within Rangers.

The truth will out. I doubt very much it was an angry Dons fan though.

I think the fact that letter bombs were sent to the MSP purely because she wore a Celtic top does point towards it being a Rangers fan.

I would actually be quite happy if it wasn't though.

    Innocent until proven otherwise.

I hope they catch the **** and send him to Sellick park at the end of the season.

I doubt that they will catch whoever is repsonsible.

It's in the hands of the Anti Terrorist police now, if they can catch some of the people responsible for Islamic Fundamentalist terror campaigns i'm pretty sure it will not be too difficult to catch that alleged "Lone nutter".

I'll stick my neck out and predict that these bombs were not the work of one bloke on his lonesome.

God. I feel a bit lost with all of this.

I was momentarily given pause for thought when I read something or other about Neil Lennon being involved in contentious property deals. You sort of think, okay, fair enough, maybe someone is sufficiently pissed off with him to threaten his life (in matters entirely unrelated to football, politics or faith). Money can make people demented, after all.

But this hardly bears further scrutiny, surely, when set alongside the other “bombs” sent to McBride and the politician? I’m not sure how it’s possible not to see the very obvious connection. I don’t know how a mind needs to work in order to be able to overlook or dismiss such a thing. (And no, this doesn't mean that I'd necessarily jump straight to the conclusion that Rangers fans are behind all of this.)

I thought that maybe the attempts to dismiss it as a cunning ploy by Celtic/Neil Lennon to distract attention away from whatever it is they are supposed to be hiding was nothing more than an attempt to wind people up. I could admire that. But some folk actually appear to believe this stuff.

How on earth.....actually, I give up.

Slightly off-topic (although not by much, potentially), but here’s a good book recommendation: Voodoo Histories: The Role of the Conspiracy Theory in Shaping Modern History.

It was written by David Aaronovitch and offers a magisterial overview of the unsettlingly corrupted and anti-intellectual minds that are to be found lurking behind the peddling of various outlandish conspiracy theories.

    I liked it, anyway.

What has that got to do with **** all? Nowt.

You're making accusations, then back it up, it's called evidence, find some then I'll accept that Rangers 'fans' were to blame, but you ain't got any, so shut it, or I'll swim to anportmor (gay place) and bum **** out of you.

This is what happens when I can't give out rep <grr>

I need to do it on the forum <steam>

A deranged Rangers fan seems a likely candidate given the only thing in common the three recipients have is Celtic, but I don't think it matters a jot which football team they support if any. It's not and never should be a point-scoring exercise as they obviously aren't representative of any group of people (unless you count 'moronic psychopaths' as a specific identifiable group).

The idiot(s) who are behind this campaign of intimidation against Celtic emplyoyees have just made a HUGE mistake.
A few bullets in the post and a couple of fake bombs, the odd random phonecall threat against Lenny could just about be ignored (or relegated to something of insignificance after a few days press coverage). Some investigations were doubtless carried out by the Constabulary but doubtlesss the "Minor" threats were considered less than serious and I doubt very much whether a task force had been assembled to deal with the bullets and fake bombs.

Now that we have 4 high profile targets of real bombs,(Brian Wilson Celtic Director being the latest) the very real threat can no longer be ignored or simply brushed under the carpet, the perp(s) are perhaps so stupid or were spurred on by the apparent inaction of the Police and other agencies that they thought they genuinely could threaten people's lives without repercussions, well I think they/he/it will rue the day that this campaign was stepped up.

I would be very surprised if arrests are not imminent, perhaps within the week.

When Anti terrorism Units investigate such things, they tend to be successful.

I read on another website the theory that it was being done by the Establishment ( not Rangers btw) in order to disrupt the Scottish elections , and damage the SNP's chances ! How ****ing bizarre is that !!!
