Linked with him yet again was very nearly a QPR player this time last year...... Cameroonian nears Rangers switch. QPR are closing in on the signing of Tottenham defender Sebastien Bassong. The Cameroonian has been told he has no future at White Hart Lane and it is understood that a move to Loftus Road will be finalised in the next 24 hours. Bassong has not played competitively for Spurs for over six months and spent the second half of last season on loan at Premier League bottom-club Wolves. The 26-year-old featured for Spurs in pre-season but new boss Andre Villas-Boas has since told Bassong he can leave the club permanently. Despite the retirement of club captain Ledley King, Villas-Boas has a number of options at centre-half. The Portuguese left England internationals Michael Dawson and Steven Caulker out of the 18 to face Newcastle on Saturday, with William Gallas and Younes Kaboul starting and new signing Jan Vertonghen on the bench. Bassong arrived in north London from Newcastle in 2009 and impressed in his first season, forming a solid partnership with Dawson as Spurs finished fourth in the league. But inconsistent performances saw the ex-Metz defender slip down the pecking order under former boss Harry Redknapp. QPR are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements after shipping five goals in their opening Premier League match with Swansea. It is understood the Hoopsâ are set to pay around £5m for Bassong.
I thought he looked good when i've seen him always remembering him scoring a winner against liverpool
Even if he is faster than Hill he is not in Clint's league he was crap when playing for Wolves I was seriously underwelmed watching him play, has a smell of panic buying to me.
Ok maybe not the worst but you know what I mean. Thought we aspired to do better than buying players like Bassong. Looked absolutely dreadful for Wolves last year. I have a Tottenham mate, he's already put his hand up to drive Bassong to Loftus Road personally.
Apologies Guys. Saw him for Wolves too and was woeful. Does not add anything. Why on earth was Taiwo allowed to go?
we should have opened the check book for samba but another centre back is a must , was there a particular reason we never signed him before ? was it case of , him simply not wanting to play for us or did we just get out priced....??
The answer is not continually buying yet more players, it's about getting the more than decent squad we have to play as a team
it will become clear as at the moment we are basing our opinions on a freak result ... Zen my friends but I can't see Bassong cutting it
