is embarrassing. It's nothing to panic about though, in 2008 we did it (to Wigan!!) and after 9 games we were joint top of the league. Now you just need he players to give a reaction in the next game.
This game shows our pre-season was not up to it. Pub teams in SE Asia as a circus event will not help us. It may be needed as a necessary evil of the promotional stuff required to maintain our revenue streams but we might need to re-evaluate the competitive edge it gives our players. A disaster on the day but not one worth writing our season off over. Other teams struggle for the formula to hitting the ground running too. Wonder if Hughes has history in this respect.
Exactly! Great post. I agree. We need to come together now. Firm up. Be loyal. ETC... One thing... as a crowd - I thought we were pathetic. Given a new bunch of players - I hated to moaning and pessimism around me today. We are SUPPORTERS FFS. Should we not have been raising the roof on there first day with a nervous new team? End of last year - our ground was intimidating. Year we went up - our ground was intimidating - we sucked the hope out of the players with all the name calling and slagging off from the fans - does Green need to hear people calling him a useless XXXX on his home debut - or should we have been booing every time Swans had the ball. Note the Swansea fans singing...... We're Swansea City .... We'll sing on our own' which is just what they did for the whole day - our fan base was nothing. Why all the anxious crap people. Are we not entertained!!!
Got to take my hat off to our West Walian neighbours, they absolutely hammered a very poor QPR team and you were lucky it didnt turn into a cricket score. You lot are nailed on for relegation, Where's the nearest Ladbrokes !!
I agree with you 100% Matt. All the travelling, playing in hot humid conditions, playing 3 crap teams in Asia, playing L2 Wycombe and playing a poor Bundesliga team is not my idea to having the team prepared for pre-season. Anybody who has travelled to South East Asia knows it takes at least a week to get over such a journey. I went to the game in Germany last week and our performance in the first half was so bad. We improved in the second half alright but Augsburg are a poor bundesliga team. I was a bit concerned with our performance last week. We need to play better quality teams and to travel less over selling shirts in Asia. I agree that commercially our future lies in Asia but we need to achieve our commercial goals without affecting our Premier League performances and preperation. I also agree with Westlondonlalala - our support yesterday was poor but considering we conceded such a poor early goal didn't help. I sit in the Lower Loft and before kick off, I met some of the people who were sitting beside us for the last few years. They had to move to make way for the family section of the Loft. One of the new people in front of us, a season ticket holder said he wouldn't be back as he left with 15 minutes to go. Some supporter!!!! Another new "supporter" did nothing but give abuse to our players for the whole match. What sort of support is that? It was great to meet a few of the lads from this site yesterday. Shame about the match but we can only improve so try to keep the faith.
Two very good points that I did think about yesterday. Our general play looked tired which for the first game is an absolute disgrace. Did the Malaysian tour take it out of them? 9 flights in 12 days would take it out of anyone surely? Regarding the support - as has been mentioned - for me a big mistake was kicking out those in the lower loft - the home end. Looking around us yesterday so many people that used to sit around us are gone. Talk about ruining the atmosphere.
one of my complaints (even though its only the first game and we will be a lot better) is that we played 1 up front instead of 2. We were the home team? I also think we gave them too much time on the ball and did not hassle them enough. All that time wasting could have been stopped with a bit of pressing. Lessons learned and we need to move forward. If MH does the same next week and week after then shall discuss then but i really do believe that was just a blip and things will change.
I remember Mark Hughes interview last season after the City game and he said (along the lines of) "while i'm at this club we will never be in a relegation battle" he said it with conviction and delivered it with arrogance. That for me is Hughes problem, he comes across as an arrogant man, that believes he is the next Fergie and I'm pretty sure he left Fulham as he believed he would be in demand for jobs like Chelsea. I like QPR as a club and your fans seem overall a decent bunch but I suspect this season you're going to be on the end of a number of thumping's and you will be in a battle for relegation.
I've been generally supportive of you lot since yesterday but it did piss me off that every time our players were in possession the boos rang out from the home fans. Wtf is that about? It's not Spain or Italy. We're British! Seriously, it shows bad form imho, and more importantly a lack of respect, and I don't like it when the odd moron does it at our place either. Just my opinion.
Getting just a little tired of your opinion now. You've had your win and gloat....now please move on!
It all started since our home game v Chelsea last season - everyone did it every time they had the ball, and it worked. They got infuriated and lost their heads. It also happened during our last 5 home games that we won. Obviously it didnt happen on that scale yesterday, but it sure does help if it is kept up during the game. I have no problem with it tbh - and i couldnt complain if other teams did it against us when we are away. Otherwise what is the point in playing home and away games.
It happened a few times in the first half when you did the tedious 20 passes across the back and then back to Vorm routine. If the booing upset set you that's fine, that's what is meant to do.
