Haven't read the responses so I don't know if this has been said (I suspect it has), but what I'm about to say can't be said enough:

**** off you patronising ****. We paid him over £100k per week, we spent £17m on his signature. He then gets injured playing for someone else (not his fault I know) and spends the rest of his time here crocked. We stuck by him, paying him ridiculous amounts, plus numerous medical bills, and in our relegation season the ungrateful ****, rather than pulling his sleeves up and getting stuck in, was publishing brochures about himself, touting himself to our rivals saying he was available on a free. That's why we hate the selfish, mercenary bastard.

I'd never actually seen the brochure before. What a vile, repulsive creature he is. That must've been as thick as an Argos catalogue to fit the ****ing medical report in.

Would have to be quite big wouldn't it.

Haven't seen you around for a while AG, thought you must have been off on your hols or something. Did you manage to get to the game last night?

    That is just unbelievable.

Charismatic? More ****ing asthmatic judging by the way he played for us the relegation season. I've seen more charisma in some goats. Little ****.

I have to laugh at these comments saying he's a legend. Aye, a legend in his own ****ing bunkbed.

If Owen had shown any sort of passion and commitment to the club along with a whole host of players the black mark from last season might not exist.
The fact he spent more time injured and when he did play was totaly disintereseted and missed some absolute sitters, but still creamed the club for stupid money. And then the brouchers FFS

Had he made a gesture such as only collect £50K a week that would have made things seem not as bad.

Think that would stick in a supporters throat.

Who was the player who had spent a large spell out injured, then agreed to play the next season for free?
Was it Gooch Oneywu over in Italy?

    Owen should try taking note.

Yeah, mate - the lad done that whilst playing for Milan. A breath of fresh air to see that from a footballer these days.

There is a Japanese lad playing somewhere in Europe who has said he's going to donate his wages to helping the Japan earthquake/Tsumani appeal. Top class.

Nice to know there are some genuine people out there that know they are lucky to be world class footballers and not money grabbing midgets who are more interested in horses than football.

Manure must be loving Owen, he's only on pay as you play isn't he?

For sure. I remember hearing about a player in Italy who was deeply relegious - he donated 50% of every wage to the vatican!

Not sure, chief. But if Manure have any sense, they would have signed him up pay as you play. IN FACT, they would have been better off with a pay as you go phone contract on T-Mobile... that would have been more use to them.

I've probably just been spending more time on the F1 board as there were back to back races. Wasn't going to miss Coloccini day though. :)

Add to that Duff being booed every time he touched the ball in November, and Bassong in January, or maybe that was Jenas? Hard to differentiate when everyone on Spurs is despised.

of course the club wanted rid of him, are u that ****ing thick? we had been relegated and he was on daft money. The fans did not give him a bad reception cos he left, but cos he gave **** all effort when he was here!!!

The reason why he was playing behind the striker was that he had lost the ability, or was it the motivation, to be the front running man.

Whilst I wouldn't go and boo the man I wasn't angered at the booing. You're talking about the man who took over £100k a week out of the club and that's before all the other perks kick in, promised all and delivered nothing.

I remember him saying that he and his family were settled down in the North East when he was flying back to Cheshire. How he said that he wanted to bring his kids up and Geordies and all that nonsense.

Taking five million a year out of the club on salary when the average working man is earning far less and can hardly afford to get to games any more. And when he was on the pitch he couldn't simply be bothered; if the ball came to him then he'd do well but that's only a part of the game of a captain. When things were going wrong he'd vanish just as Jenas used to do and wouldn't try to have a word with the other players and to bolster them up.

If we wish to compre with another goal scoring captain, Shearer. Now that was a man who would put in his all, game in and game out. Sometimes it would seem that Shearer was the only player on the pitch but he'd try to turn things around.

Owen could have made himself really popular with the fans. He could have said that he was staying on for one season in the Championship and that's it. Let's face it, what did he did at Manchester United for his first season there? Nothing. So he could have been productive there and showed us all what a great professional he was.

But, no. He was keen to be off. Anywhere else. When someone professes to be comitted to the club, any club, doesn't put the effort in on the pitch, doesn't lead nor motivate, tries to string along the fans with false promises of him going to renew the contract and then finally jumps then, well, it's not surprising he was booed.

And if he showed commitment in all his games that he played then I need to get my eyes checked unless there was an imposter walking around the pitch.

He couldn't be arsed and he appeared to treat the club and the fans with contempt. So, what else did anyone expect?
