And yet I see signs of encouragement. There are not going to be many teams going to SJP and picking up points, this season. We should have come away with at least a point, and but for a moment of utter stupidity by VDV and Lennon, we would have done. What the game did highlight is just how desperately we need a class striker, and Levy would have seen that. The fact that the No.9 shirt has not been allocated to a player gives me hope that we have someone lined up.
the Chelsea that won the CL, and FA Cup, knocking us out in the process. They easily did better than us season - oh and who got the CL place?
HI HIAG, but many of us have known we needed a striker all summer, why do we have to lose three points for it to register with ENIC/Levy? We need two strikers BTW, not just one.
It's like this every year though GH10. We're always waiting until the end of the window for last min bargain deals. Unfortunately with the position we find ourselves in now, being top 4 contenders, it's a tactic that will cost us points. It's not just 3 points we have lost, it could be as many as we have games until aug31st. The modric situation has been a bloody nightmare this summer and I hate to say it, but I think we're over a barrell. Apparently the fee isn't as high as we'd liked, and it's left us about 10 days to sort out the rest of our transfers. - many targets of which are rumoured to be incredibly pricey. (and fees may even rise, or continue to take the piss further, when clubs know the injection we've received from the sale of modric!) In the next 10 days, I can see us becoming the next club who starts panic buying and overspending. We've just left ourselves no time. I hope it's not the case because we've done some great business this summer in verts and sig. And you're right. We do need2 strikers, but be grateful if we get 1. Thank god AVB has the team playing some cracking football already. Was really impressed yesterday. However, modric should have been sold sooner and we should have got replacements sooner. Fingers crossed over the next few days. COYS!
Thanks for selling Modric to Madrid Because of that, we can get Nuri Sahin. Whoever thought the spuds would accidentally be useful.
I appreciate the possibility of signing a crock on loan must be hugely exciting to an Arsenal fan but I don't think either deal is completed yet so I wouldn't go counting your eggs before they've hatched.
We are only just breaking even with our current expenditure and income. If we sell players for less than they are worth or buy more expensively that we can afford we will either go bust or need different owners. There are five clubs in the PL who have much more money than we have. It is not our owners fault that they are less rich than we would like. I'm sure they would be very grateful to sell up to an Abramovich look-alike but clearly no-one has come along. Do you think that Levy really has £20m+ spare that he is not using. Why would he do that? I understand the hurt felt, one of there reasons we did so well in the sixties and seventies was because we were the London glamour club just at the time that the salary cap went so we could afford the best. Unfortunately getting back to the top table in the current climate is an enormous problem.
How do we know that ENIC haven't had offers from would be RAs, who then got frightened away by ENIC's high price they want for the club. Never forget there were strong rumours that RA wanted to buy us and 'wasn't encouraged' by ENIC. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but I do know ENIC love driving a hard bargain. so I can easily imagine them asking silly prices for the club, thus driving would-be buyers away to other clubs. I've no interest in excuses from the ENIC supporters. the situation is as it is, they have to deal with it. If they can't they should sell up, my hunch is that at a reasonable price some very wealthy people might be interested. If not, well we're stuck with them, and that's it, another season in the shadow of Arsenal and Chelsea, IMHO. PS two more arsenal supporters added to the 'ignore list' for calling us 'spuds'
I guess we don't - but wasn't RA's Chelsea takeover when we were still listed so ENIC wouldn't have been able to block it really. In case of doubt I'm not an ENIC supporter I am a Tottenham supporter: I agree with you that they don't have the financial muscle to compete with Arsenal or Chelsea for the top talent but they have given us a side which was within a whisker of being above both of them last season (and has been above Liverpool three times running). Being disappointed at losing away to the previous year's fifth placed team is something we would only have dreamed of a few years back
ENIC are brutal, they would demand an exuberant price for the club. Joe "I support Spurs" Lewis , has hardly been to a game and made most of his money from "Black Wednesday" with George Soros. He is worth nearly 4 billion but has no interest in investing any real money. Levy is his puppet dictator that plays the crowd. This is what we are stuck with,a greed is good culture, please sweet Jesus help us.
hi PS, I wasn't aware of this. I was under the impression that we were were making a fair amount of profit, and had accumulated a bit of a "war chest" over the last few years, despite a lot of the money going towards a new stadium. obviously a net transfer spend of £5mill would give this impression to many, I presume? However, in light of your comment, I take back my previous comments relating to this matter. cheers for the insight, I was completely unaware However, if this is the case, Daniel Levy needs to get realistic and stop putting CL pressure on which ever manager is in charge. with bugger all to spend to get the talent in, it's very unlkely we'll be able to remain in top four contention if we cannot even begin to remotely compete in any way, shape or form with those clubs around us. with all of this taken into consideration, I'll be very happy with a 5th or 6th place finish.
